Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- cdfhallPlano, TX124 contributionsThis castle is an interesting historic castle that is built on Castle Rock. Because of its historical significance in Scotland, it is visited by many tourists.
It is easy to see most of the castle. There is, of course, a lengthy line to see the Crown Jewels.Written 12 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Crowded in parts, particularly at the summit. Stunning views across Edinburgh and along the coast. Quite strenuous in parts.Written 31 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Annette B1 contributionHighly recommend this experience. Loved the relaxed feel to the tour and being able to do it at our own pace. The hand held guide is an excellent idea, more places should use them. Each stop is covered by the perfect amount of information, without it becoming boring. Really enjoyed seeing the yacht after seeing it so many times on TV. It's immaculately preserved and a great way to pass a couple of hours.Written 13 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Off their PManchester, UK4,018 contributionsOur guidebook said no matter how much time you afford Edinburgh you could still spend more time there. We found this particularly true about the old town as there is just so much to see there.
It definitely is worth getting a guide of some sort so you can understand the history of the streets in the building which is rich and fascinating.
A map is useful but it can also be fun just to get lost and this way you discover off the beaten track things. Wherever you go there is something to see and food and restaurants are plenty so you don't go hungry or thirsty.
Make sure your camera battery is charged as well as there are so many photo opportunities everywhere.Written 7 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Temac1970Melbourne, Australia231 contributionsGreat views of Edinburgh. A relatively easy walk to the top along sloped paths (with only about 10 steps from the street to begin) although there were some taxis at the top, indicating you could get there by car if mobility was an issue. Great views of old and new town. Well worth it.Written 8 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bas-Si10Kerens, TX74 contributionsThe Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo should, IMHO, be on the bucket list of anyone who enjoys military bands, and especially bagpipes. The sight and sound of the massed pipers sends chills down the spine. We opted for the Gatehouse dinner package, which includes a nice dinner and wine in an intimate setting. We were then conductor our seats. The performance lasts about 1 1/2 hours and is staged inches courtyard of Edinburgh's historic castle. A truly memorable experience.Written 12 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Chanelle DEdinburgh, UK2 contributionsPrinces Street Gardens is one of my favorite places to photograph families and engagements. It has a beautiful fountain and epic views of Edinburgh Castle.

- Steven HArbroath, UK7 contributionsBrilliant day out with all the family. I seem to remember there being a wee train in the past that took you up the hill (maybe I am imagining) as our youngest (4) struggled with the walking round and up hill so would have been good. Animals all looked very well cared for: we loved the flamingoes and the anteater! If you see everything it really does take all day so would say arrive early. We got the bus there easily straight from ingliston.Written 5 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
