When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful little village in the middle of the city.
Loved the walk by the river, it's lovely and quiet even surrounded by tourists.
Around 10 mins walking from the far end of Princess Street by the Jonhy Walker side. Really worth the visit.

A serious museum not for the frail. The entry fee is very reasonable. The exhibits were extremely morbid and quite sad in a way - that 300 years ago people suffered so much, check out the scoliosis, lordosis and syphilis exhibits. I would say it would take one to two hours to thoroughly inspect the exhibits, but I think most peoples sensitivity and compassion would be worn out after an hour. I would like to have seen the gift shop a little larger. It added a little humor at first to what was quite dark in places on different levels. But this museum would be of interest to students of medical history, undergraduates, esp Vesalius up to Burke and Hare body snatching. Unfortunately, no photographs are allowed. I wouldn’t visit again because pathology is what it is, but this museum shows the early primitive surgical beginnings, and the medical fascination with the workings of the human body.

Wonderful tour from Max at Summerhall Distillery. Really interesting to hear about the history of Pickering gin, the gin making process, and of course sample all the delicious gins!

Lovely walks around. A nice stop off point and takes 1.5/2 hours to go round. Interesting if you like Scottish history. Parking is limited - so park on the grass up past the car park towards the castle.

Absolutely amazing day had with BobCat Alpacas today. Myself and my family loved every second. Bob was a fab host and so informative about his beautiful herd of alpacas. Can't thank him enough. Beautiful walk and the surrounding views are incredible. We will definitely be back. Thanks a million. Please give Praline, Teddy and Marco Polo (and all the others) a giant hug from us xxx

Gladstone’s Land is a must see National Trust property on the Royal Mile, which is well worth an hour or so of your time. Basically consisting of three floors, each representing a different era - the two ladies who were on hand to explain the history and decoration etc were very friendly and helpful and really brought the history to life. At the end of your visit there is a nice cafe on the ground floor. Honestly we couldn’t recommend it all more highly!

It has been some years since visiting Inchcolm Island. A beautiful day of blue sky and sunshine. Crawling up the steps of the tower was so worthwhile . View from there was magnificent. Although have travelled far and wide since that day remains one of the most memorable. Atmosphere and the peace found pretty well unique.

Greyfriars is a short walk from the Grassmarket and is known for its church, graveyard, and Greyfriars Bobby. Greyfriars Bobby is a Skye Terrier known for keeping a 14 year vigil over his master's grave. Upon Bobby's death, he was buried near his master and is commemorated with a beautiful flower garden in front of the church. Bobby is also honored with a statue that is supposed to bring good luck/ long life to whoever rubs his nose. The statue sits across the road from the Greyfriar Bobby pubOLD. Another reason to visit is that J.K. Rowling, author, wrote the initial Harry Potter stories and named several of her story characters after real people buried in the graveyard. The buildings in this Old Town neighborhood most likely have not changed for several hundred years. The Greyfriars area has character and charm.

Lovely to be able to get inside one of these beautiful houses & see how it would have been used & furnished. The fashion exhibition was interesting, though small, with a fabulous dress of the period & an amazingly skilfully embroidered apron. It was nice to imagine how living here would have felt &, while the room guides did impart much useful information & were extremely knowledgeable, I do echo the previous reviewer's comment that it would have been good to have some quiet to think for oneself.

I had bought my dad a voucher back in March for father’s day and we decided to use to do a tour of the brewery last Friday. We were taken on our tour by Jeff who gave a really interesting tour that was lighthearted and fun as well as informative, he helped find a beer to suit everyone and was clearly passionate about his work. It was so nice to also see the restaurant so busy especially with it being so far out of the centre but the food and atmosphere was fab (although the hot honey pizza isn’t for the faint hearted 🌶️) well worth the trip out!

In a city with so many green spaces, the Water of Leith Walkway stands out. It stretches from the Leith waterfront for 12 miles to Balerno at the edge of Pentland Hills. Some sections are suitable for bicycles. Virtually all are alongside the Water of Leith and are tree covered.

So we got lucky and went on a glorious September day just before Jupiter was about to close for the winter. But when it re-opens go go go! We went off the back of seeing a couple of photos and wanting to make the most of the sunshine by being outside. Getting there was really easy. We took the X27 bus (you can pay on board with contactless). The bus stop is right by Waverley Station and the bus then stops directly outside the Jupiter gates. It took about 40 mins to get there. Tickets are available from a little kiosk on the entrance road and you get a big paper map of the site which was perfect. Within minutes you're submerged in woodland and art. Lots of art, big, mad, brilliant. And the cutest sheep I've ever seen.

I've been to Hopetoun House many years ago....ironically, I really only remembered the library and study from that visit. So here's a wee review from this visit. PLEASE NOTE ,HOPETOUN IS SEASONAL AND NOT OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND. CHECK OPENING BEFORE YOU GO.
    ACCESS:-
Hopetoun is well signposted from the major routes. Take note though, you do go through a housing estate and alongside the waters edge to reach Hopetoun.
    ENTERING THE GROUNDS:-
You'll be greeted by a lovely person at the ticket booth as you go into the grounds.
    CAR PARKING:-
Surprisingly, the car park is fairly small. Maybe there might be other places for parking when it is busy. I did not see blue badge parking, but that said,I never asked either. Car park is free though unless it is for an event.
    THE HOUSE:-
Absolutely stunning. The family still live in the house (in one wing). I noticed threaded throughout the house, there was family pictures which is lovely to see. Just truly depicts that first and foremost this house is a family home.
    Well worth seeing.
I was there at the Outlander Tour event which was great. Our guide Fiona was so knowledgeable about the house and shared information on its history as well as the house involvement in Outlander . Please note that there are steps to get into the house and it is on different levels- there is no lifts that I certainly seen.
TOP TIP:- Highly recommend going to the viewing platform to get beautiful views of the Forth and beyond.
ANOTHER TOP TIP:- If you're an Outlander fan- nip along the road to Midhope Castle to visit. It's on the Hopetoun Estate ,but it's a wee walk away.
    THE STABLES KITCHEN:-
It's absolutely beautiful inside. The staff were so lovely- by far the kitchens greatest asset.
I personally found the food to be quite expensive though. Don't get me wrong the cakes were lovely but I was quite disappointed to find out that what I wanted for lunch had run out (I was there just after 1pm). So I ended up getting loaded jacket potato(cheese, leek and mushroom) with side salad (mixed lettuce leaves -no tomatoes etc) -ÂŁ11. There was 2 loaded jackets on the plate. I didn't eat much of the salad. Personally, I would charge half the price and give half the portion - or at least offer that as an option for those with a smaller appetite.
Would I return to Hopetoun House:- Absolutely yes.......all the staff I spoke to were lovely, definitely an assett to the House.

This is a lovely little museum in a really old building, which is worth seeing just for itself. The displays covering 3 Scots writers are well laid out in separate rooms & it is an actively evolving project, which also encourages modern writing & education sessions for children. We found it good to while away an hour or two before catching a train (it is not far from Waverley, up steps into the back of the court). The staff are lovely.
