Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A must visit while in Edinburgh. We visited in on a Friday in January which seems to be a good time to visit as it wasn’t too crowded and we felt we got to see everything properly. I booked our tickets online as we stood outside the castle and we were able to go straight in. Adult tickets are just under £20 which I though was really good value and there are loads of exhibitions and exhibits to see dotted around the castle itself, the highlight being the Scottish Crown Jewels, the military museum and the views across Edinburgh. All staff were friendly, we really enjoyed our visit

Have been up Arthur’s seat regularly for the last 3 decades. This one was special as I turned 65 and it looks tougher each year. The climb is gentle until the last 100m to the top but worth the effort. Standing in top with the fresh air and getting a 370 view of the sea and Edinburgh city was simply fantastic. All visitors must make this trail as a must do. 👍👍

A friend recommended The Real Mary King’s Close to me as a cool guided tour. I didn’t know anything apart from that. I thought “I’m always up for some history and it looks cool!”
I didn’t realise I was going to be taken underground to view the remains of some of Scotland’s oldest closes (streets) with a brilliant tour guide, Nell, who was not a 400 year old ghost as we were told at the beginning of the tour. The tour was incredibly interesting and had a bit of everything for everyone. I would highly recommend this attraction to anyone wanting to know more of Edinburgh’s history. The gift shop is also really cool and all the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Anybody with an interest in British history should definitely have the Royal Yacht Britannia on their to visit list.
There is much more of the yacht now accessible since we last visited a long time ago.
Most areas are open for viewing, including the Royal apartments, officers quarters, sailors messing, the bridge and navigation area, finally the engine room.
I would suggest trying to visit at quiet time as some areas of the yacht could become crowded at peak times.

We wandered around old town Edinburgh and enjoyed the architecture and shops. We were very impressed! The old town area did have a large number of tourists but you could still get a feel for the city history and appreciate the area.

I booked this as I thought my son (who is neurodivergent) might like it. We both loved it! Most of the exhibits are interactive and there is so much to see and do. The staff were very helpful and accommodating but there are some exhibits that might be challenging for anyone who has seizures. Having said that, there is still a lot to see and do. Would go back if I could.

We were looking for a good Indian restaurant on the Royal Mole in Edinburg and found this gem near the Starbucks across from the Radisson on the mile. Excellent service and great food. The dal tadka and veg samosas were divine. My wife enjoyed the mutton biryani. For south Asians in Edinburgh, you have a great watering hole on the mile.

The staff were great and helped us hand pick some to try. The tastings were wonderful and it was priced reasonably, we skipped the tour.

The palace was beautiful although I think for the price it is not worth it. I found it quite expensive. It is a nice place though to spend some hours there.

Great experience. Very enjoyable. My three kids (age 6, 8 and 10) loved it. The hot chocolate was divine. Making the bars was so fun. Our tour guide Lucinda was brilliant.

Would definitely visit again if in the area. Plenty of different walkways to explore. Very informative with tags on all the trees and bushes etc. Plenty of photo opportunities. Plenty of benches to sit down and take everything in. Wide variety of colour and even some waterfalls. Just lovely.

Went on the “Journey of Flavor” tour and it was fantastic! Highly recommend if you want to know more about Whiskey. Amazing theatrical performances and stunning rooms. You also get to make your own Whiskey cocktail and then get two Whiskey based drinks to your liking at the end of the experience! definitely worth the trip

This is one of the most fun things I've ever done. I've never been to a "military tattoo" before and didn't know what to expect. If you love bagpipes and Scotland in general, this is a must do. There were multiple piping bands, an excellent light show on the castle that was fascinating to watch and matched the country of each band performing. There were bands from all over the world and some of them were so entertaining with wonderful dance performances and amazing props, costumes and colors. It was wonderful. My favorite part of the night though was the end, when Auld Lang Syne was performed and it was truly a heartwarming community event. I am an introvert by nature so chatting with people around me isn't something I usually do, let alone engaging in boisterous song. However, the mood was so cheerful when that song was played (presumably because it was written by Scotland's beloved poet, Robert Burns), everyone crossed their arms and linked hands and then swayed to the beat of the music. It was really joyful. Like I said, I'm not big on big displays of public affection, but I loved this so much, I will definitely be back another time. Made me feel so much a part of Scotland and so welcomed - absolutely spectacular show! I will say, don't be fooled by the time of year. August may be warm elsewhere, but when it gets dark out in Edinburgh, it was quite chilly - dress appropriately.
