Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Sharon WNottingham, UK1,739 contributionsReally lovely river running through the heart of the city. I preferred the area around the river, lots of restaurants and bars. Pretty too as well as very majestic. We did the walk along and across the bridges and really enjoyed it.Written 10 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Happy travellerCounty Durham, UK26 contributionsPretty well laid out gardens. Has also got internal areas with cacti and air plants. Externally good. Has full facilities and cafe. I made donation which is voluntaryWritten 27 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PdonatyandkidsWestborough, MA260 contributionsNice short walking area around the locks. We did not have the opportunity to see a boat go through the locks…that would have make the experience even better. Lots of little local restaurants and shops surround the locks. There is a parking area near the locks. You pay to park with the machine. Credit card is needed. Fee to park is reasonable.Written 24 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PdonatyandkidsWestborough, MA260 contributionsWe walked to the island on one side of the river crossed over and walked back on the other side of the river after visiting the island. There are plenty of benches to stop and rest and enjoy the scenery. Well worthy the time to walk. We would do again if in the area. We had no trouble finding parking (parked in a public parking lot).Written 24 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Peigi MCrail, UK56 contributionsKind of haphazard layout and very steep with an awkward turn off the main road, but worth the effort. Great plants for sale.Written 22 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SarahCInverness, UK38 contributionsA great resource to have and my 20 month old loves it! New manager and improved staffing and reviews being overseen by the Customer Care Manager. Looking forward to lots of 5* visits. For us the quieter periods during the week work better with a toddler. The new membership is incredible value.Written 10 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Victoria BRaleigh, NC1,632 contributionsA beautiful park with playground. This was the first thing we "saw" in Inverness in an attempt to get our kids outside and tired out for the evening. The playground is great. There's a beautiful gazebo we saw on the walk back too!Written 24 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. In the area there are some paths along wood and pools where is possible to spot wildlife, we spotted ducks and grey herons but if you are lucky you can spot kingfisher too.
The real highlight tought is the path facing the Moray firth who shows his best potential at low tide when plenty of birds come to feed and it's possible to spot oystercatchers, swans ,curlew, geese , ducks and so on.
Well worth a visit.Written 3 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Victoria B24 contributionsBeautiful waterfall surrounded by natural beauty. Much larger than anticipated.
Short (300 yards) steep walk down- west suitable footwear- boots or trainers.
Certainly not boring. And the fences are for your safety.
There’s only room for 3-4 cars to park so go when it’s quiet.Written 13 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FernGlasgow, UK479 contributionsthis is a fascinating place that more people should be aware of! i loved visiting here. we only did the tall trees walk and it took us less than an hour, including visiting the stream and stopping tons of times for photos.
very clear to see that these are some of the tallest trees in north europe. it's so impressiveWritten 30 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a small parking lot with a pretty view of Loch Ness along with a parking lot and free bathrooms. It's next to an Inn if you'd like to grab a bite. It was a quick stop but very convenient.Written 4 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Minstrel1 contributionIf you are into Gardens then this is a must see. The gardens are off the B861, a country road out of Inverness, and up on the hillside overlooking the city Kessock Bridge and Moray Firth. A beautiful vista awaits anyone taking the time to venture here. However, be warned, the road to the gardens is easily missed ( my own experience) as the entrance could be mistaken as the entrance to someone's home. Well it us but drive up it and you will be rewarded. It may be that Oldtown of Leys is the name of the farm, where these gardens are situated.
In fact, Inverness Botanical Gardens are a poor
2nd to this garden. From the moment you step round the corner of the information hut, your eye is cast across a wondrous vista of mature trees, herbaceous and beautiful borders nestled amongst 3 levels of ponds, which aids drainage.
What is more remarkable is this was the vision of a lady, wife of a cattle farmer, who saw potential some 30-40 years ago and decided to turn an open field that was surplus to requirements, into an aesthetically pleasing garden.
How do I know all this? Whilst visiting with my family on a fairly dreich (Scots word for damp, rainy day) I ventured across to the information centre whereupon I saw a lady in amongst the borders on her hands and knees, tending to her border. I soon discovered that this was the owner.
I was able to establish that she and her husband had invested their own time, money and toil, into producing a garden where I run out of superlatives. Go see for yourself and take the kids. Why? Placed throughout the garden are customised musical instruments with sheet music and even In the rain they are all functional. The kids would love them.Written 2 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
