From the US, I hired MCS Taxi to transport a lot of luggage, my dog, and me from Edinburgh to a village north of Inverness. Every step of the way was easy peasy and the service was outstanding. Chris took all the hassles out of making arrangements from thousands of miles away and paid attention to my concerns (dog! coming from the cargo hold of a plane! big luggage!). Driver Willie was outstanding. He arrived early to load us up, was an excellent driver, and found a lovely little park off the side of the road when we needed to stretch for a few minutes. Considering the distance and burden, the cost was quite reasonable. I recommend MCS Taxi highly and will use them again.

We booked a full day of touring with Jim Johnstone during our stay in Inverness. He responded quickly to any inquiries and developed a plan based on our interests. We visited Loch Ness, Culloden, Cawdor Castle and a few other spots along the way. Jim was informative and helpful, giving us a great day of touring and learning. I even went home with a copy of his book! Highly recommend booking a day or two with Jim.

Booked a small group tour and was very impressed. Everything was done very professional and changes were able to made if necessary. Driver was very courteous and willing to do whatever we wanted. If you want to cover a lot of ground away from the crowds, contact Duncan. He responds quickly, was on time and very friendly. Highly recommend.

I had mixed experiences with taxis in Inverness.

Be forewarned. Based on my experiences, Taxis in the north of Scotland do not have EFTPOS facilities.

if arriving in Inverness by train, be sure to get some cash from an ATM first.

This will avoid arguments with drivers, even if you are extremely apologetic, and offer to go to an ATM to pay the fare that you owe them.

The next day, the driver who took me back into town, was, once I explained my situation, far more pleasant to deal with.

Just simple pickup from Inverness airport up to Dornoch and back. Was a real treat to listen to George give me a tour in the car on the way up and Alastair the same on the way back. Very nice gentlemen and will use them again.

We had an absolutely fantastic day with Jim. We toured through the highlands. He took us to Tain as I wanted to visit my family ancestry. The rest of the day we let Jim provide suggestions and take us to places that he thought we would enjoy. My travel tip is book a trip with Jim and let him do what he does best and show you Scotland. He knows the country better and take you to places less traveled. Our day with Jim was our favorite day in Scotland. He is fun and funny! He really listens to you and what you are trying to get out of vacation and find place that you will enjoy. He was on time, polite, fun, and owns a comfortable and clean Audi! If we ever return, we will hire Jim for the full trip!

Before we left Australia, we booked a private day tour with Highland Chauffeur for our day trip for two couples. We were to be picked up in a van at our hotel in Inverness and taken to Urquhart Castle, Culloden, Clava Cairns, a lunch stop and possibly managing to fit in Fort George as well.

Unfortunately, the gentleman that I had been conversing with for the time before our trip was unlucky and had his van damaged in the terrible floods and storms that hit Scotland just before our trip. He contacted me to let me know and asked if we were happy for him to find us another driver for the journey, which we were.

On the morning of our daytrip, Alex came to collect us. Another misfortune befell us in that one of our party had inadvertently injured her knee the day before.

The van was large enough to make her comfortable and Alex went out of his way to drive close enough to allow her to enjoy as much of the day as possible.

Our first stop was Urquhart Castle and luckily the sun came out just as we arrived on what started as a misty, damp morning. Alex suggested that we might be able to hire a wheelchair or similar and this proved to be the case. We got a ride on from the Castle and the injured lady was able to see an awful lot of the area, except of course for anything with stairs and no ramps.

After a wonderful time at Urquhart, we headed to Culloden where we chose to do the premium tour with a guide. Again, our injured companion was able to access a wheelchair here too. The tour was very enjoyable and I definitely think the small extra expense of a guide was well worth it.

On the way to lunch, we stopped at Clava Cairns and three of us spent time wandering through the incredible stones. Our poor friend was in considerable pain by then and decided to wait in the car. She loved the famed Scottish hairy coos, so asked Alex if he could find her one to see. Alex went to lots of trouble to drive right up next to one, so that she could take photos without leaving the car.

We had lunch at Cawdor Tavern which we had pre-arranged with our original driver, who had made a reservation for us. Lunch was very enjoyable food wise but it was obvious that our companion was in some distress.

At this point we decided that she really needed medical attention so asked Alex for his advice. He felt it was best for them to go to Accident and Emergency at the Inverness Hospital, and happily agreed to drop the couple there. We decided not to go on to Fort George and suggested to Alex that he could just drop us at our hotel. He said he felt bad about us missing the rest of the tour, which we had prepaid, so suggested driving us around Inverness to see some more local areas. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and his knowledge of the area made it very interesting.

Luckily shortly after we were returned to our hotel the other couple arrived by taxi after having some successful treatment at Inverness A & E.

I highly recommend Alex and Highland Chauffeur who helped organise our day. A private tour is a very nice way to enjoy a day, allowing us all to see the scenery without worrying about strange roads.

What an incredible experience with Kacey and James! We traveled to Scotland with our family of 13 to renew our wedding vows for our 30th wedding anniversary. This was a truly magical day! From the location, to the ceremony, the food and boat tour, Kacey and James prepared an incredible backdrop for our celebration.

Kacey was patient with me during the planning process. She answered all of my questions and offered great suggestions.

Buy the drinks package that is offered. We did not and ran out towards the end of the day.

Buy the photography package as well! James took incredible photos for us! No family took photos and we all could really be engaged without worrying about getting great shots.

You will not be disappointed! Kacey, James and their children were incredible hosts and created memories we will never forget! Thank you!

I needed to travel from Inverness to Edinburgh with my two older teen sons. My original plan was to take the train, but I'm so glad that we found Bill instead! He created a tailored trip for us that highlighted our interest in the mountains (funicular to the top of the ski area) and got us to Sterling Castle, as well as adding many stops along the way that I would never have thought to ask for. We drove through tiny roads with glorious forests and lakes, stopping to wander through local parks. He showed us where his sons jump off the local bridge into the river below. He was incredibly friendly and eager to introduce us to Scotland with a lifetime's understanding and interest. I can't recommend traveling with Bill highly enough!
