Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We are fortunate to have made this trip twice, in terms of wilderness, wildlife and views the West coast to the North is definitely the best part, second time around we travelled from fort William to Durness and included the Isle of Skye (which you can traverse in a van easily in two days and see everything plus do a bit of hiking) our main stops were Arisaig, Skye, Applecross, Shieldaig, Achmelvich and Durness, all very isolated and beautiful. We saw plenty of wildlife including otters, deer, seals, marine birds and birds of prey and met friendly travellers and locals along the way. It’s a very peaceful, reflective and restorative experience. 10 days is more than enough, in that time we fitted in 6 decent hikes and climbs.

The weather is extreme at times so ensure you have supplies and appropriate clothing, you will need to take some food supplies as there is sparse provision on the route bar the honey pots. We did find that the NC500 food stop wagons were not all that and were overpriced. The driving is one track in places for long miles and please offer courtesy when driving in a van by stopping to allow people to pass. Additionally think about where you’re parking. Areas would not be suitable to for large vehicles and or inexperienced drivers, you need to research this before planning your route.

There is ample provision for vans and motorhomes to fill with water and deposit waste, we went off peak season and even though the provision is there we did see evidence of people dumping their waste which is awful, I can imagine how much worse this can be in peak season and how poor behaviours and influx makes local residents feel. Subsequently, we felt off vibes from locals a couple of times which was a shame.

We stayed on sites during our trip and our favourites were Shieldaig and Sango sands. Lovely facilities and hot showers with fair prices. Plenty of opportunities to support local communities at farm and craft shops etc.

I would recommend going out of season, we have never been in peak season and can imagine it could be unpleasant with an influx of travellers on roads and sites, but each to their own.

Bring board games etc and books as there will be rainy days!

I had never been paintballing before but Wildwoodz were a fantastic host for our team building day. Wildwoodz were welcoming, organised and professional throughout the day and made sure that our day out was action packed, exciting and fun. Great, friendly and professional team who delivered a fun and memorable day. Highly recommend you consider Wildwoodz for your family or team building day out.

This was an amazing experience, the alpacas were very calm and the owner, new all the alpacas well, we walked down to the beach and took pictures and fed them carrots then wandered back again.

Booked this for our daughters 12th birthday herself and 9 friends had an amazing time, a little nervous at first. Staff were amazing with the girls putting them at ease and ensuring they had the best experience ever.

    Highly recommend

I cannot speak highly enough about Maria and Iain at Target Technique. Their knowledge and experience in this field shines through, along with their fantastic coaching skills and encouragement, which not only made my experience very enjoyable and memorable, but has inspired me to continue developing my learnt riffle shooting skills back home in England.
Thanks again you two - I had a blast! (in more ways than one).

Fantastic trip on fast RIB Mischief 28th October AM. Although we never saw dolphins on this occasion, bird life, seals and a wonderful encounter with a Dutch clipper style vessel under full sail made it a memorable day! Superb boat, skipper, very professional attitude to safety both pre-trip briefing and conduct whilst at sea, top notch protective gear and life jacket. Our visiting French friends were blown away by the Black Isle scenery from the boat and it was a great start to their Scottish visit. Highly recommended!

My son had a flying lesson here, and the experience will live with me forever.
We flew from Inverness over Loch Ness, the experience was AMAZING, the scenery breathtaking and my son had the time of his life.
He even landed the place HIMSELF!!
The instructor Ryan was brilliant with him/us.
Really kind, patient, very knowledgeable and was the perfect instructor for my son’s maiden flight.
    Thanks Ryan!!

A quick induction brief from the very knowledgeable instructor Chris.
10 minutes later I was in the hot seat of the F16 fighter jet experience.
    Very realistic cockpit setup.
Flew all around Las Vegas and Dubai.
Finished off with a dog fight.
    First class experience.
I’m planning on going back later to try the 737 Comercial jet.

For a stag do we hired canoes from Donald and paddled the Spey. All of the communication and organising was simple and easy.
He picked us up, dropped us at the river and then picked us up from the river mouth at the end. All of the equipment we hired was perfect for the trip, and he even transported one of our own canoes along with the ones we had hired.
As for the river Spey, it was a fantastic adventure, perfect combination of steady, easy flowing river and fast exciting rapids. Lots of beautiful camp spots all the way down too. Would recommend to anyone:)

We lived a fantastic morning with Russell and his teens at Loch Ness. Russell was really kind with us, he tought us the basics to avoid falling down and we could paddle for more than 3 hours through Ness River, Loch Dochfour and, finally, Loch Ness. We had a really nice conversation with him and even we taste some wild berries.

Overall, it was an excellent morning!

With a group of 7 middle-aged ladies, had a wonderful trip on The Ness. The gentlemen were very helpful and patient! You will be provided with a life jacket, helmet and shoes. They have everything with them. Had a lot of laughs and fun, and this was the 2nd time we went along!

Murray, is a brilliant man, he has excellent knowledge, nothing is too much for him, kind, considerate, caring went way beyond his brief!

The NC 500 was a landmark event which was enhanced by Murray. Already thinking about my next visit and Murray will be a part of that!!
