My friend and I had a really great afternoon here. Carole and John are very welcoming hosts and have thought of everything to make the visit a great experience.

The best bit of course are the alpacas (and the occasional Llama]. Just being in the field with these gentle and graceful creatures was lovely. A mix of adults and babies or cria’. Carole has encyclopaedic knowledge about the species. My chum had loads of questions which were answered in great depth. But thats not obligatory. We each had an alpaca to take out on a wee walk through a custom made track through a wood, pond and meadow. Carole takes photos so you can concentrate on the animal and the experience which I thought was great.

I bought a pair of alpaca socks in the tiny shop. A bargain <£18.

Ive never had homemade cake and tea at the end of a tourist visit with the site hosts. It was a super end to a great visit and nice to meet Bill too!

Pluscarden Abbey is one of my favourite places in the world. It is so peaceful and so beautiful. Mostly everything is run on an honesty policy-so make sure you have money with you and not just a card. The little gift shop is full of lovely treasures, again you leave payment in the honesty box/safe if it's not manned. We like to look out for the abbey cat-usually to be found relaxing somewhere funny like on the shop counter. Couldn't find them this time though :( There is a beautiful long winding driveway up to the abbey from the car park-you can park outside the abbey if you have elderly/disabled guests with you. A must-do on your visit to the highlands! Thank you to all who maintain this beautiful, special place.

An amazing distillery tour. Our guide, Lianne, was knowledgeable about both the technical aspects of whisky and the distillery's history. She showed us every aspect of the distillation process. The best part of the tour, besides the tasting, was the trip through the barrel warehouse. Lianne knew how to find the unique barrels and provided the backstory of those barrels. The tour ended with a tasting of five whiskies. Unlike other distilleries, Benriach pulled for us to sample, including a 2005 port-aged whisky and a 21-year-old peated whisky. Everything we tasted was exceptional. We ended up purchasing several bottles as the on-site prices beat the prices that we saw in Edinburg whisky shops. I highly recommend this tour. It has given me a new favorite whisky!

This is an intriguing ruin. The info boards are very good. The guy at the entrance was very well informed. He told me about it but then left me to wander around at my own leisure. There was no one else there. It’s a gem.

Beautiful peaceful garden in the middle of Elgin right beside the old cathedral. Very informative walk around the garden reading numerous quotes from the bible. It's is free to enter but there is a donation box near the main gate to help support the upkeep of the gardens

Outstanding museum. Beautifully curated, with a huge variety of objects. The signage and explanation leaflets were very good. Some lovely costumes on show and enough interesting cases to look in to satisfy everyone.

My Mum and Dad and then me and my brother lived in from 1948 to 1962, During those great summers (Gulfstream aided) we would visit Hopeman and spend the day in the sand dunes on West Beach with our Thermos flasks and Sandwiches, we could walk up to town for an Ice Cream.

The dragonflies are back (12/8/2024). They can be seen patrolling the margins on the hunt for mates. I think they are Southern Hawkers. There are two good spots to see them, the central bridge and the small bridge at the west end of the loch, closest to the carpark. Stand on either bridge and you see them searching , moving away and then coming back to the same spot.

Well, if you’re climbing up here expecting a castle - I’m afraid you’ll be rather disappointed, as all there’s left is a few mounds of stones as evidence of where it once stood . It was built in the 12th century as a royal castle - believed to be founded by King David l in 1160, as Elgin was granted a royal burgh status that year. Built on the summit of Ladyhill, and with dimensions of 80 metres by 50 metres it must’ve dominated the area back then, Even today the view overlooking the town is very scenic. King Edward l of England claimed the castle as a residence in 1296, and several years later the Scots attacked it twice , setting it on fire. It was repaired in the 14th century by the Earl of Moray, but was ransacked by the Douglas rebellion , then just fell into disrepair. However, it’s worth visiting this lovely spot, and also for the nearby 80ft tall Duke of Gordon monument.
