Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- george ftruro35 contributionsThe museum was very understated but inside was a hidden gem. So much history about every persons history and we were amazed with the collection.Written 24 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul S8 contributionsAn atmospheric late medieval building that became a library in the 17th century. Mike was our exemplary guide for the one hour (booked) tour. He related the history in digestible chunks, with carefully managed intervals for questions and for individual viewing of the rooms and exhibits.Written 14 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tracey M1 contributionA memorable day, lots of history, friendly knowledgeable staff. I would definitely recommend the cafe, homemade cooking and cakes. - Peter WSheffield, UK224 contributionsHaving just watched the Life On Mars TV series for the first time in 20 years, we were inspired to find out more about one of the key locations featured & discovered that it was just about to close for the Winter. We managed to book a place on the last Wednesday afternoon tour of the season here (ÂŁ9 each) & were very impressed by the beauty of the building.
Our tour guide was very friendly & professional but, on reflection, I felt that we would have been better off self-guiding our way around the building given that the numerous wall displays provided the same information as the guide, and the presence of 20 other tour guests did restrict everyone's access to & sight of the key features of the building as we were guided round.
We pre-ordered a cream tea (ÂŁ6 each) which consisted of tea/coffee plus a large, tasty cherry & sultana scone but with a barely sufficient amount of jam & clotted cream.
Certainly well worth a visit. Make it a great full- day out by fitting in a visit to Elizabeth Gaskell's House (10 mins walk away) in the morning.Written 9 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Wayne MSydney, Australia785 contributionsAfflecks is a bit of an institution in Manchester and it's easy to see why. - Karla_BManchester, UK111 contributionsIt's a very lovely memorial park and certainly work a visit if you are nearby. I love the fact he is life sized and on the bench to sit next to.
Closeby where he sits is also an AIDs/HIV memorial, with the history of the disease, which is really educational too. The park itself is rather simple though, and I think flowers and planters would be beautiful. But it's still really nice to see a green space in Manchester.Written 19 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I’ve read some of the recent reviews and I felt compelled to write another review as I left one after my first visit. I love this place, the staff are phenomenal and so friendly.
The entertainment (I read there was non?? —News to me) was varied and good fun. We had karaoke, bingo, quizzes, raffles, singers, even a bed of nails and sword act. As for no wine? Absolutely has red/white and rose. Yes some of the brands are paid extra but there is plenty choice to have within the all inclusive menu. The food whilst it won’t suit everyone, we never went hungry.there is a lot of choice. I personally enjoyed it all. I found the hotel clean and comfortable, yes some of it might be a little old school but I feel it adds to the charm.
Smoking is allowed indoors however the reception area is non smoking. This is something that will divide, as smokers enjoy having a smoke & drink yet non smokers not so much? But smoking indoors is allowed in Tunisia like in many countries so not really the hotels fault?
On both occasions we have been fortunate to meet great people who have now become friends. Kimo the entertainment manager, ensured everyone was included and we had a few nights out both at the bar on site and locally with our new friends. We have also booked our next trip there. It is a good price holiday. A home from home with many returning customers. If you want all modern and bougie then it might not be for you. If you want fun, safe and a home from home in the sun then get booking. I also asked for a fridge (for medication) and kettle and both were provided.
My son and girlfriend where there a few days with us. My son proposed. The hotel did them a cake to celebrate. They made us all so welcome.
The hotel is closed off by a security gate that is manned around the clock. I felt very safe here.
The pool area was fine in my opinion as was the beach bar and areas. The bar staff round the pool are all lovely and attentive. There will always be people with differing opinions but please don’t let negative comment's put you off. I cannot wait for my 3rd visit.
