The question everyone asks is "Should I get tickets and go to the top, let alone the second level."

My answer is a simple NO. If you read any of the guidebooks or the experts who write about visiting Paris, they almost unanimously say NO as well.

    Why?

The best views of Paris have the tower in them, not from the Tower itself.

To invest 2-3 hours MINIMUM, from transport times, walking to the base of the tower, standing in line, going to the top and looking around....when you are only in Paris 3-5 days, there are many more interesting things to do.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't go see it. And there are many places to view the tower.

Here are my favs and ones you should consider.

    1. Get on the 6 Metro in the 6th arr and go towards Etoile. The route 2-3 stops from Trocadero...look out the window and you can feel as if you can touch the Tower

    2. Rue de l'Université

    3. Place du Trocadero - definitely a must at night. Pics with no people in your shot are on the steps to the left and right of the Trocadero

    4. Terass Hotel in Montmartre - Rooftop Bar

    5. Peninsula Hotel - Rooftop

    6. Bir Hakeim Bridge

    7. Parc Champs de Mars - Under the Tower and in front

    8. Galeries Lafayette or Printemps Rooftop - I think Printemps has a better viewpoint

    9. Seine River Cruise - Prefer at night.

    10. Pont d'Iéna Bridge - Here is where the Olympic Rings are located

One of the best museums in Paris! I recommend at least a day to fully see this maybe even two days. I also recommend going early to see the Mona Lisa there will be a crowd but wait for a great picture. Great family day out!

Great place with art but probably not for all ages with the appropriateness of art but once again it is art! Really is another good place and really recommend it to the new!

Great place with French church culture. Loved it every part. Sadly the bottom floor is only open but still was amazing. I recommend to come and have a look at amazing French history! Great for all ages!

We had arrived to Paris early in the morning, and had to drop our luggage at a Stasher location so we picked one next to these gardens. Once our luggage was dropped off, we got to go right into the gardens and it was such a nice visit. Everything is nice and open, lots of shade trees, and it was just a beautiful place to relax, grab a chair, and do some people watching. We loved the grand basin, we got to see one of the statues of liberty, and we got to use the public restrooms, (which are actually very nice). We finished our visit by stopping by the Medici fountain and then headed out of the gardens to continue our sightseeing for the day. It was a very relaxing stop and I'm so glad we didn't miss it!

Great place you get to see the top of the Arc and see all the history. You can see half of Paris from this and see the Eiffel Tower amazingly. Top moments of Paris.

Sacre Coeur is the centerpiece of your half-day visit to Montmartre. I won't go into great detail about how to visit Montmartre but a few things to consider when you see the Basilique.

    1. Come from below and take the funicular to the church. You can walk the steps but its a steep climb.

    2. If you want to climb the Basilique itself, the line for that is to the left of the front.

    3. Place Du Tetre, where the artists hang in good weather is to the left of the front.

BE AWARE OF THE SCAMMERS TRYING TO PUT A BRACELET ON YOU OR YOUR CHILD OR TO SIGN A PETITION.

THIS IS WHERE ITS THE WORST IN PARIS.

From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a grandiose interior. The ceilings are painted with exquisite scenes from opera productions, and the space feels as if it could host an event from another time.

I have been to Montmartre many times on my visits to Paris. while some plan to spend a full day here, you can do most and even the highlights in 3-4 hours. Overall, it is filled with tourists and given the compact and hilly nature of the area, it can seem like nothing but tourists.

    Getting to Montmartre

Anvers Metro is the closest one to Sacre Coeur and the easiest. If you get off at Abbesses....BE PREPARED for the longest and highest climb to the street.

    Highlights of Montmarte

    The main streets are:

    Rue Lepic
Rue des Martyrs - Fantastic street with cafes, artisan shops and is one of the best in Paris.
    Rue des Abbesses

If you search online, you can create your own walking tour which will take you by houses where Van Gogh lived with his brother, restaurant seen in the movie Amelie (Les Deux Moulins) and the Terass Hotel.

    To do:

Terass Hotel Rooftop Bar - One of the better views of Paris. Bar is enclosed with some open areas outside so you can go year round.

Wall of Love - Nearest to Abbesses Metro

Moulin Rouge - Touristy, yes, lots of strip clubs and sex shops on the street as well

Musee de Montmarte - Renoir painted here

Le Maison Rose - Behind Sacre Coeur - Picasso had a fling with the owner back in his day. Worth dining here, probably not, stop by for a drink or snack, sure. Or just look from the outside.

Au Lapin Agile - Cabaret once frequented by all the luminaries of the area

    Dali Museum

Place du Tertre - to the left of Sacre Coeur is where the artists of the day hang out, paint and sell thercreations. BE CAREFUL. IF YOU BUY, MAKE SURE YOU GET WHAT YOU BOUGHT BEFORE YOU LEAVE. MAKE SURE ITS NOT A POSTER OF WHAT YOU THOUGHT WAS AN ORIGINAL.

The Clos Montmartre Vineyard - Yes wine is made in Paris

Bateau Lavoire at #13 Place Emile-Goudeau - Picasso painted here and many of the famous artists from the early 20th century lived here

Sainte Chapelle is what I consider a tier 2 or 3 stop in Paris. If it's your first trip or you only have 4-5 days in Paris, there is much more to do.

The highlight is of course the stained glass windows, however, I'd suggest forgoing that daytime and see a classical music concert at night to appreciate the majesty of the space.

One of the required boxes to check when writing a review here is when did you go. It isn't that I just went In January 2025, but more that I have been to Paris 10x and have been to the Marais on all 10 occasions and for more than one day on most trips.

    Why

    Great Museums
    Great Shopping
    Great Restaurants

Rather than review everything in an individual review, I am going to list most if not all here and give you a quick snapshot of yes, no or waste of time.

The Marais was the SWAMP of Paris and the most undesirable of central Paris locations. It is where the Jewish community resided and grew before WWII and still has many elements of its historical past - restaurants, museums, and synagogues. It is also where the LGBTQ community moved to in the 80's onward.

The Marais is located in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements and because of the breadth and depth of to-do's in the area, you will find yourself spending a lot of time here if you're a traveler. If you're a tourist, you will still find yourself here as well,

    Major Attractions

Musee Picasso - I consider this a tier 2 art museum in Paris. Not a definite no, and if you're a Picasso fanatic, then consider it, but there are so many other art museums in Paris that should come first, consider this on your third or fourth visit to Paris.

Musee Carnavalet - A must stop in the Marais. Plan. to spend 2-3 hours touring the museum which is FREE and is the HISTORY of PARIS MUSEUM.

Hotel de Ville - City Hall - Currently there is a post-Olympic exhibition that is free but requires a reservation

Place des Voges - One of the most beautiful squares/parks in Paris. In one corner is the Victor Hugo House/museum. Along the outside are various art galleries and a Carrette which is a must-stop for your Parisian Chocolat Chaud fix.

Museum of Jewish Art and History

Marché des Enfants Rouges - Oldest outdoor market in Paris. FANTASTIC Eats including Les Enfants due Marche inside and Chez Alain Miam Miam across the street and known for the best sandwich in Paris

Centre Pompidou - Modern Art Museum. Closing in the summer of 2025 for 10 years.

National Archives- Hotel Soubise - SKIP. There are better "mansions" to visit in Paris and unless you are interested in the current special exhibition, it isn't worth the 60-90 minute stop.

Major shopping but closer to the Seine side is BHV. For Americans, this would be like. Macy's

Musee des Arts Metiers - Science Museum. I haven't gone yet, but it is on my list.

Old Jewish Quarter - filled with good food like L'As du Falafel (famous cheap eats in Paris, Miznon, and patisserie Yann Couvreur

Maison Hugo - Located in the Place des Voges. Les Miserables was written here. Excellent small museum. FREE and worth the 45 minutes.

    Major Streets

    Shopping streets -

Rue des Francs-Bourgeois: The main shopping street in the Marais, which is pedestrian and busy on Sundays

Rue des Archives and Rue du Temple: Home to trendy boutiques for men's and women's clothing

Rue Charlot, Rue de Birague, Rue Vieille du Temple, and rue du Roi de Sicile: Small streets with lots of boutiques

    Other Major streets

Rue des Rosiers - Jewish area
    Boutiques, cafes, and bakeries

    Rue Crémieux
Famous pastel-colored buildings - postcard picture

I could write 10 paragraphs more about the great restaurants or more sites to see. It is really an area worth the time

The Musée de l'Orangerie is the must-see museums to visit when stay in Paris. A small museum, no crowds. Monet's Water Lilies alone are well worth the visit.
These paintings were displayed nicely , it's definitely worth making the time to do so.

This bridge is beautiful. Simple and elegant. If you’re lucky enough to be there on a sunny day, the way the sun lights up the golden statues is just incredible!!

I went on a beautiful sunny winter day and loved walking through the gardens, looking at the statues. There were the famous ones like the Thinker and some Van Gogh and Monet inside but lots of other pieces including a wonderful Dior room behind the main museum. The whole trip was free too and you can come in any time even with a booking. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting France as lots to do both inside and out.
