Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not all of the Palace of Versailles is spectacular, but this iconic room is a wonder to behold. It is not to be missed and must be experienced to be understood.

An interesting building re the real tennis aspect and the fact this is where the French Revolution began. It opens at 2pmish and is free.

We had no expectations when we headed for this museum on a May Sunday morning. We wished to avoid the crowds at the Palace of Versailles. And we were in for a positive experience!! What a delightful place!! The museum collection was very well curated!! We enjoyed this museum of 3 floors and were very impressed with this museum visit! It was most educational too- we now have a better idea of the French Revolution and the Royal family and French history. Now many of the questions that we had regarding French history were answered. All the rooms were well maintained and the collection included nice porcelain, paintings and even clocks! We were the only visitors there during our visit. Highly recommended. There is a lift for easier access.

Located at 10min. driving distance from Versaille, we visited this museum as advised by a guide.
The museum displays fine pieces of Jouy linen (high quality printed cotton with traditional patterns: nature, animals, plants, scenes from everyday life).
I was more interested by the information panels explaining very well how an industry is built from scratch, how it survived the political turmoil of the revolution, the occupation in 1815 by Prussian troops etc.
An hour is sufficient to visit the museum before going on to Versailes and resume exploration of its castle and parks.

Versailles Montreuil is the neighborhood around L’ Eglise St . Symphorian . Rue de Montreuil is a short but sweet commercial street starting at the rotary in front of the church running up to Place Alexandre and the statue of André Le Nôtre (Louis XIV’s garden landscaper ) and ave St.Cloud. More interesting are the off the beaten track historical sites along la rue Champs de Lagarde which is a block or so behind the church: La Maison des Musiciens Italiens where Louis XIV’s housed 5 Italian sopranos when they joined the la Musique de la chapelle Royale. Included in the same buildings is the Musée du Compagnonnage /Union compagnonnique Tour de France.
Les Compagnons is an association dating from the middle ages when the construction of cathedrals got underway. Today it provides training and apprenticeship in traditional crafts ( woodwork, carpentry, ironwork , masonry, building, roofing, plumbing, painting, cooking, leather, glass etc) for youths from 15 years old on and post high school. The apprentices live together and travel round France practicing their trades and improving their skills in preparation for a chef d'oeuvre .
La Maison des Musiciens was eventually passed on to the botanist Le Monnier who landscaped a garden behind the house. The garden is now a small park open to the public with information about it in French and braille . Unfortunately if you want to visit the museums inside you have to schedule your visit(individually or group)

Across the street a few yards up on rue Champs de la Garde(another entrance 73 rue avenue de Paris) is la domaine de Mme Elisabeth, Louis XIVs sister who was beheaded doing the revolution. It consist of rambling park with gardens and a lovely house . It used to organize exhibits but it seems to have streamlined its activities and its visits are also now scheduled.
