Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This former school has two main classrooms and three extra rooms to explore. Each room is adorned with teaching aids dating from 1880s to 1960s. It was fun to see these and even better to try out the quill pens whilst squeezed in awkwardly at a child’s school desk. They’ve even got hopscotch in the playground.

On our drive through France we found this amazing sculpture trail created by a local town council. They have the foresight to create an attraction to draw visitors to their town. They have done well. Be prepared for some tough walking in some places but it is worth it.

Very average pizzas, they do come fresh from an outside oven, but the cheese just was not very good. Beer selection was awesome and the terrace had a nice view of the castle and very nice view of the sunset. Very good place to have drinks.

Great tour. Perfect balance of history, stories, wine, food, and walking. Brent chose some great stops and took some really nice pictures that he shared with us.

We were fortunate to find James for this tour. I’m a bit of a medieval history buff and it was a rare treat to be able to visit sites and travel routes I’d read about for so long during a five-day private tour of the ‘Cathar’ castles and related villages. James is knowledgeable, warm, flexible, and entertaining. We were hosted to a lovely dinner in his castle, and thoroughly appreciated all the effort he has put into his tour(s). I would second his recommendation that reading about the Albigensian Crusade before visiting the Languedoc allows for a rich and satisfying experience: if you only read one of the many which exist (and James has some of the best listed on his website) we’d recommend ‘The Perfect Heresy - the Life and Death if the Cathars’ by Stephen O’Shea. It’s well-written and organized and a fine introduction to the conflict.

The countryside and castles are superb. As an added bonus, James had two sets of hiking poles he lent for some of the steeper walks. Some of the photos make it appear that no one but a mountain goat would attempt the routes up to the castle (or back down!), yet we are a couple in our late 70s, one with bad knees, and it is completely doable.

    A wonderful trip.
