Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- JRAsFishBabeCalgary, Canada1,912 contributionsCarcassonne was a very convenient stop on our route to visit our daughter who lived in Font Romeu. It was recommended to us by friends and, conveniently enough, was another World Heritage Site to add to our list! The Cite de Carcassonne is a medieval fortress dating back to the Gallo-Roman period. Restoration work was begun in 1853 by the architect Eugene Violett-le-Duc. The importance of this site as a trading centre dates back to the 6th century. Nowadays, its importance is heavily influenced by the tourist. We were there in early May and this was already very evident. No, matter, there were still places that were somewhat away from the bustle. We didn't have long to spend there, but still wanted to experience a feel for the place, so we ventured into the centre a bit and then decided to do a scenic tour of the outer perimeter. This fortified city consists of 2 outer walls, with 53 towers and barbicans to aid in defence. It sits up high enough to give a scenic view of the surrounding town.
We had parked in the lower town and had a fairly long walk up to the entrance of the fortress. A bit of research and, as we discovered, we could actually have driven right up the main entrance, but there is nothing wrong with a bit of exercise, right. Also, our route went though a pretty neighbourhood, as well as crossing over the Auld River on the 14th century Ponte Vieux.
Add another World Heritage Site to the list, the Canal du Midi. It flows through Carcassonne, actually, just on the other of the Cite de Carcassonne.
It would definitely warrant more time to look around, explore the fortress, as well as the ville basse (lower town), where the Carcassonne Cathedral is located.Written 5 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Though our stay in Carcassonne was ruined by the aggressiveness and violation by her to us and our property when we told her friendly we didn’t like the apartment at reu Les Babes 26 (Mme Christine), this experience was worthwhile. - SuperBear12315 contributionsBeautiful catholic cathedral in the medieval city of Carcassonne. It has services on Saturdays and Sundays but you can go in anytime to look at the beautiful stained windows and architecture so long as you are respectful.Written 24 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SusetteInSeattleSeattle57 contributionsVisited the base of Château de Quéribus and Peyrepertuse for the view. These castle ruins were the last strong holds of the Cathars, a Christian dualist sect in western France. They are perched at the top rugged cliffs and seem impossible to have been built, especially in the 12th and 13th centuries. For anyone interested in Medieval history, these castles are worth the drive.Written 17 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlbertSalichsManresa, Spain11,524 contributionsPorte Narbonnaise is the main gate to enter to the old town of Carcassonne, a wonderful Middle Ages town located in the South of France. It was built in the 12th Century and it was reconstructed in the 19th Century. Nowadays, it is a very beautiful gate, which you see, if you visit the old town of Carcassonne, because I am sure you will enter from here. It has a drawbridge, from where you can see very nice views of the old town and the walls. I came here with my 6 years old daughter and she liked very much here taking photos.Written 4 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KatieinMatlockMatlock, UK449 contributionsThe theatre is at the far side of La Cite. La Cite is all cobbled and a bit hilly, so can be difficult in a wheelchair. At the venue, we get a different entrance, that means we can avoid the stairs. Treated like royalty. Was able to stay in my chair and be on the front row of the free placement seats. Lovely open air stage. Quite an intimate venue. Excellent acoustics. Artists can mingle with the audience at the sides. Wonderful evening.Written 28 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DOCDoolinDoolin, Ireland2 contributionsMy mother and I recently visited Carcassonne and had a wine tasting on our bucket list. Vins and Vino's was the perfect pick! Right around the block from where we were staying and such a reasonable rate. Alex tailored the evening to our liking, including a range of different wines. His in depth knowledge and passion really reigns through when he takes you through each sample. With wines from every corner of the languedoc region you could spend all day here. Fresh local nibbles to see you through the thoroughly enjoyable evening.
A must for anyone visiting Carcassonne.Written 3 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Beer selection was awesome and the terrace had a nice view of the castle and very nice view of the sunset. Very good place to have drinks.Written 21 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Rupert BearSouthampton, UK4 contributionsWe had a fabulous day with Rachel who looked after us for the day. The weather was not kind to us but it didn't spoil the day.
We all learnt so much about the region and wine making in general.
We also visited an olive cooperative which was fascinating and included a tasting of olives and oil. This was followed by an hour on the Canal du Midi with local wines, a lovely local lunch and a trip to Minerve. The day was rounded off with a tour to an amazing chateau estate vineyard with a unique growing methodology and another wine tasting. A fun filled day enjoyed by us all.Written 20 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jdharrington14 contributionsWe loved Olivia Gotti. We spent 2 delightful days with her going to Carcasonne, Albi, Cordes sur Ciel and Castelnaudary. She was very receptive to our interests. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging.
We would recommend her without any reservations.Written 13 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
