This museum has one of the best collections of Dutch Golden Age paintings. It's been long on my list to visit. The third floor dedicated mainly to Hals and Rembrandt. There are two small portraits by Hals listed as property of State Art Collections Kassel but this time they were on display at Wilhelmshohe, nice surprise.

Well, much to see about death. Though somewhat small, the museum is laid out over two floors. The items on display are quite interesting, and of course are about death. I did appreciate the exhibit about traditions from around the world on death and what it means to different cultures.

Note almost the entire museum is in German. One exhibition (I believe it was temporary) had English, if I recall correctly.

Staff very nice. Nominal entrance fee. Bathrooms available.

Loved this experience of taking a 2 hour tour with the fire department. We learned a lot about the history of the bunker along with Kassel's history and role in World War II.
The fire department only offer tours once a month so you have to register with them beforehand.
It is about 10 degrees in the bunker even in summer, so you should bring a sweater/wear long pants.

Ein sehr lustiger und amüsanter Ort, hängt aber wahrscheinlich auch von der aktuellen Ausstellung ab. It probably depends on the current exhibition but we had a lot of fun. Maybe you'd have to know German to understand the caricatures. They also sell funny postcards and other merch.

As part of a bus tour of Germany, two adults visited this museum in May and had an independent tour in English that lasted over 60 minutes. Extremely interesting storyteller (as the younger brother to the more famous Brothers Grimm), portrayed by Dr. Wolfgang Schmelzer. Since this was part of our bus tour, I don't know how these tours are arranged, but highly recommend it. If you can attend, you won't be sorry. Believe it greatly enhanced our understanding and entertainment of the actual museum.

There is a big collection of all kind of things. You can find old trains and firetrucks but also medical instruments and the history of the cell-phone for example.

We went there with our 4 year old son. There are a lot of things to see and do. If you like technics, you can spend a lot of hours there.

    Friendly staff and friendly prices.

We visited the Jack the Ripper room to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was fantastic! We both love finding secrets and solving puzzles, so it left us very happy and inspired, and absolutely wishing to come back!!! Everything is done with a lot of love and attention to detail. Also the interior almost brought us back to the 19th century! Thank you, EXITgame Kassel Team, for this stunning experience!

Kassel is part of the German Fairy Tale Route and is best known for being where the Brother’s Grimm went to university and lived. The museum itself is dedicated more to the work that the brothers did on documenting the German language and creating the definitive German dictionary than on the fairy tales that made them legendary. The tales themselves were collected by the brothers by visiting the owners of inns on the heavily traveled roads in the area. The owners of the inns would recount stories told by travelers as they passed through the region, which provided the brothers with a rich collection of folklore to work with.

Although the museum isn’t solely focused on the fairy tales, it is still very interesting and worth visiting. Children will definitely have fun seeing the various exhibits, but the museum is perfect for people of all ages. If you travel the German Fairy Tale Route or plan a trip to Kassel, you should definitely take a few hours to visit this fascinating museum.

We visited with family and friends. The kids loved it and although it was freezing in the outside pool the pool inside was warm and great for kids. There is a small cafe as well that serves food and drinks.

A very good museum for learning about Kassel and the Hessian state. The layout of the museum is done in a linear fashion, taking you through periods in time. Exhibits and items on display are done well and are really interesting. Some rooms were recently renovated are very clean and new looking. If I remember correctly, all placards and item descriptions are in German only.

There is apparently an observation platform at the very top of the museum that affords you an excellent 360 view of the city; unfortunately by the time I got there the museum was about to close and so I didn't get a chance to check it out.

If you like history at all or want to learn more about Kassel and/or Hesse, this is a perfect museum. The entrance fee was nominal, there are bathrooms, and a cloakroom.

    Recommended!
