Unlike most US wineries, the bodegas of Spain are a bit more formal.
We arrived as a group of 6 and Mikel (sp?) taught us about the winery, and the region, and answered all of our questions.

Loved this winery for it's intimate feel and complete different than the large, modern, corporate wineries in the region.
The history of the Rioja wine region is fascinating, and this vineyard tour explained its role in history as well as its current traditional winemaking practises.

The fact that they are so modern in design is unique to this region and very cool to see compared to the many other wineries and tours we did in this trip.
We arrived (18th May for the 10.30am tour) having travelled through the unassuming town of Logrono and it was like being in the countryside in the vineyard.

We walked through the vineyards to a small wine shelter where we enjoyed a white and rose wine with cheese & chorizo, picking fresh almonds off the trees.

Although we missed out on visiting any vineyards/wineries, we were very satisfied with our (last minute) visit to Franco Espanolas where we satisfied our main objective - to sample multiple La Rioja wines.
We have visited a lot of wineries, vineyards, port houses, and distilleries.

The winery is so beautiful and historic, and the wines are top notch while also very affordable.

Of course, the tour ends with a wine tasting ... of three different wines, all produced by the family using grapes from their local vineyards.
How often can one say they've stayed at a winery that's been operating since 1582 in the same family?
