Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went to Wild West Abruzzo for a riding lesson with my young daughter. I am an experienced rider and have my own horse back home, so I understand the basics of horse welfare. First of all none of their 10+ horses and foal had any shade from the baking sun, nor did any of them have any hay to eat at approximately 4pm. Horses must have at lib hay, as they develop stomach ulcers of their stomachs are empty for more than 2-4hrs. We saw no hay at all and none given during the 1.5hrs we were there.

I was asked to groom a lovely big gelding, which had a terrible, itchy skin condition in both ears and eyes causing him to shake his head and try to scratch constantly. The owner said it was due to flies but had not been treating it. He showed no concern at all for the discomfort the poor horse was in. After grooming I was asked to get on and ride- I was reluctant seeing the condition of the horse. The saddle was also filthy and they had put the anatomical girth the wrong way, which I corrected. Once on, the horse started coughing and wheezing when I asked him for the trot. The owner told me to ignore it and continue as it was ‘just the dust’ of the arena sand. He also shook his ears incessantly and his coughing got worse. I then refused to ride anymore and got off. My daughter was given a mare who looked very pregnant. The owner told me she was just fat because she eats too much. Strange considering there was nothing for her to eat. She looked heavily pregnant as she was not ‘fat’ anywhere else, but they told my daughter to get on and ride.

There was a female ‘teacher’ (owner’s partner maybe?) who was extremely rude and aggressive and yelled at my 7yr old daughter for not getting the mare moving. She also yelled rudely at me (MOVE, GET OUT MY WAY) when I came near to her (we were sharing one arena and my daughter was getting distressed at this woman shouting aggressive orders at her!!). In fact I never heard her address me or my daughter in a civil or polite tone or normal voice! The poor mare struggled to go around the arena and I similarly took my daughter off and we left.

This place is unprofessional and the horses are very mistreated. The female teacher might be racist as I am not Italian. I don’t know why else she was so aggressive with us- she had just taught a young Italian girl and was very gentle and kind with her. The way she shouted at my daughter and me was extremely rude and unkind.

The stable has a few different horses for adults and ponies for kids.
This was my very first ride on a horse, the guide gave me basic instructions and I quickly felt in a very natural connection with the animal. We went through the beautiful forest of the National Park of Abruzzo with the guide, crossed the river, near the lake. The panorama was fantastic, like out the fantasy world of the Lord Of The Rings. The tour lasts for an hour and is very affordable. The manager of the stable is very talented; he does his job really well, and he's just 20! All his family is helping at the stable. You can feel the warmth and joy of the typical Italian family. I strongly recommend the experience to everyone.

We loved our tour of the wonderful town of Atri. Eleanora was so knowledgeable and her English was great. She showed us around the beautiful ancient town and answered all our questions. The walking is not strenuous as you’re already at the top of a hill. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

This used an aguturismo, but they no longer operate the restaurant. They do still rent private rooms. The horses are well cared for and the riding is very relaxing through the mountains and along the river. The owners Marina and Fabio could not be more hospitable, welcoming me as part of the family. I have been back several times now, and enjoy more every time. They allow pets, and my dog loves running free in the country side.
