Vatican: Early Entry to Museums, Sistine Chapel & St Peter's
We met our Guide (Lucia) at a Cafe’ one block away from the Vatican City, and once gathered our headphones, we started to walk towards the entrance.
Lucia, was just marvellous, made everyone feel at ease, and gave us a tour which was a walk through history. Her knowledge is extraordinary, all the anecdotes were a joy to listening to, and full of little details which, no one could find in the numerous books about this splendid building.
The history of St. Peter is the history of the world as we know it, with dramas and love and hate, with power and riches beyond our imagination.
Dynasties and powerful families (normally Italian, but not always) filling our minds with images of intrigues, lies, trades, countries and empires, fighting for control over the pilgrims and their faith.
My partner and I have been all over the world, but seldom we have encountered a more likeable, knowledgeable and friendly Tour Guide.
If in Rome, you should try to get Lucia as your guide, and believe me, you will count yourself lucky as she will make your visit to the Vatican an unforgivable voyage into history.
