We stumbled across this by chance while we were in Piazza Navona. We’d been given a brochure at the door of the Sant’ Agnese church. Normally I dodge brochures and if I take them to be polite, then I usually ditch them pretty quickly. However this one appealed to us straight away. I think it was the combination of Italian opera and the atmospheric setting in the small Borromini sacristy inside the church. It was hard to resist and on a whim, we decided to stay.
It was very beautiful and we loved it. We loved the voices and we loved the setting. The performance lasted one hour, with selections from selections from Tosca, La Boheme, La Traviata and Rigoletto. The chapel itself was such a small, intimate setting that it felt very special.
The seating is in the chapel pews. We were at least halfway down the row of pews, maybe further back, but this didn't affect our enjoyment. I would recommend that you try to sit on the inside of the pew, next to the aisle as the performers sweep up and down and it added to the excitement to be quite close to this. You also get a better view of the performance as you can look straight down the aisle towards the altar/stage.
They asked that people did not take photos or video throughout the performance but they posed for photos at the end so if you want a memory of the evening, you can still get one at the end.
Tickets were 20€. We were able to buy them from inside the church on the day.
Performances are on Wednesdays and Fridays at 6pm which was perfect timing if you want to start the evening with the concert, then head onto dinner and drinks.
