Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a direct airport express train between Fiumicino Airport and Termini Station in Rome. Departures start fairly early in the. morning and run until around midnight with service every 15 minutes in both directions. Check website for updated schedule. The ride is 32 minutes, quite a lot of space for luggage onboard and normal seating.

Ride cost is Є14 per person (one-way). It is a bit expensive for the distance so if you have three or more people you can do just as well taking a taxi to the city centre - fixed cost Є50 from Fiumicino. Airport buses are even cheaper but can take quite a bit longer to get into the city.

Interesting train trip. The Frecciarosa is billed as the fastest train in Europe. At times, it did get up to over 150 MPH. But there was frequent slowing down. The ride was not all that smooth - kind of reminded me of Amtrak. It is certainly not like the smooth ride on the Shinkansen (bullet train) in Japan. The layout of Trenitalia is not efficient - the stations in Roma and Fierenza (Florence) are one-way, requiring the train to reverse direction to leave. The schedule was spot on when we travelled on Wednesday. However, delays were frequent on Friday. Fortunately, we didn't travel on Sunday when the operators went on strike, which we learned is a frequent thing. The kiosks where tickets are bought required a lot of training to use. I finally became an expert at it.

if you choose hotel near this area (Novotel La Rustica Rome), there are no way you want to go to city center using cheeper solution. there are 2 train station which is here and la rustica iur. But both have no counter to buy tickets to rome city center (rome, tiburtina or rome, termini). no booth or no whatsoever. They only have machine to validate the ticket. So you need to take a cab to tiburtina station and it will cost you more in the rush hour because of the traffic jam.

The train was overcrowded and the was no room left to secure our luggage. There were constant notifications of delays which was not accurate and eventually the screens went dead. The over officious officer forced us to secure our luggage in a compartment of another coach, did nothing about the passengers loading their luggage in the wrong overheads and when I had to retrieve it in Rome I had a real struggle to reach it and injured myself pulling it out of the storage area whilst jostling with disembarking passengers. We will never use Italo again.

I've left my review of Rome's metro subway system to the very last. What started with great promise on the first trips to Circo Massimo & Repubblica at fairly reasonable 1.5E charges, quickly deteriorated with typical Italian flair! I have travelled the metros in London, Paris , Berlin & New York to name just a few , with large crowds but Roma takes the cake. The crowds were pretty intense but little, if none, official supervision. At Spagna station I was the victim of a pickpocket, who I grabbed but my wallet had already been passed on. The Cops, in this case, Carabinieri, were absolutely hopeless! Prancing around in their colourful uniforms but didn't want to action my report? Quote: "Signori, not our problem, go to Polizia!" To compound the issue, I wasn't allowed to enter the Polizia Station to report the theft as I had no Identification? Having your wallet stolen with all your ID kind of leaves with no ID!! So my advice to fellow travellers is to give the metro a miss and walk as the busses are not much better and the Rome Police forces are a joke!

Ridiculously poor operation and quality. Truly the worst public transport in Europe's capital. They hate to work I think but they strike all the time.

We spent nearly $2000 for Eurail passes and reservation fees for a family of 4 (plus one "free" child under 12 so 5 people total but only 4 we had to pay for) for "5" days of travel between France/Italy/Austria/added a 4th country never went to because no pass for just "3 countries". Any of the desirable trains (like high speed or night trains) required mandatory reservations which made this cost so much. Also, many routes excluded. For example, we wanted to take a night train from Paris to Italy-- NOT INCLUDED!-- just with a 25 % discount. So we had to take a night train to Nice instead. Guess what happened when we arrived at the Paris train station for our night train to Nice? We found out there was a strike and our train would not leave that night. They had us sleep on a non moving train! And they locked the bathrooms and only gave us access to the bathrooms at the train station. We then had to take a train in the morning to get to Nice (luckily it was high speed and we go there by 12:30 pm).
The train from Nice to Florence, however, had great views along the coast.
We realized what a poor value the Eurail was within a few hours of buying. I called them the next business day and was told I could return but had to pay a fee (something like 15% of the $1600 fee paid [that was the price before the reservation fees]).
My husband and I had traveled Eurail in the 80's and 90's and wanted to show our kids rail travel in Europe. I think I could have gotten better price by going directly to the rail website vs. Eurail.
