We did a guided tour of the Colosseum: Underground and Ancient Rome Tour and it was simply amazing. This is our second time to the Colosseum but the first time doing a tour and it made the experience remarkable. We have teenage children and they also found it fascinating as we were allowed in areas where others were not. The history here is truly astonishing.

Was told these Greek ruins are better than what you see in Greece due to not having the acid rains due to pollution. Spectacular.

A must visit in Rome! We went around 6pm one evening and it was super busy with a big queue to get pictures, however seeing it lit up at night was gorgeous and Deffinitely worth facing the crowds. We went round the corner to the roof top bar opposite trevi bar, this was a little overpriced but for the view, worth every penny. A great way to soak in all that is the trevi fountain!
We re-visited around 8:30/9am the following day and the place was dead! We didn’t need to queue at all and got straight down the bottom for photos with nobody else in! Everyone was lovely down there, taking each other’s photos etc. we went for a little walk and then came back to look at the fountain some more, by 10am the area was rammed again so I Deffinitely recommend going early!

Feels a bit more laid-back than other parts of the city, and there’s a real sense of community here. Nice to stroll through and take in the ambiance.

One of the most beautiful parts of Rome. It wasn't as overcrowded as many other popular places during our visit in January.

Absolutely stunning gallery set in a beautiful park. I only wish we had stayed longer to really enjoy all of it!
Be sure to book tickets ahead of your visit as even midweek in January it was mostly sold out and make sure it is the official site and not one of the many others charging you way more than the entrance fee! We enjoyed the artwork but sadly some of the lighting was bouncing off the canvases, particularly in the Caravaggio room which spoilt it a bit. In contrast, the Bernini sculptures were well lit and presented well. We had enough time to see everything and weren’t rushed at all. The bookshop has some lovely gift items/souvenirs.
We also took a break at the onsite Viva cafeteria and can highly recommend the tiramisu, tarte au citron and in particular, the cheese and ham toastie which was declared the most delicious ham and cheese toastie ever by a very fussy teenager. The in joke for the remainder of the holiday was ‘is it as good as a Borghese toastie?’ wherever we went.

Admission to the Basilica is free
This is a beautiful, stunning religious building which will leave you speechless.
It is full of Catholic artworks and amazing decoration. This is a smaller scale replica of St Peters Basilica Vatican and is a must see , just wonderful.
Throughout Rome entrance to all the Churches and Basilicas is FREE. We found the internet suggests you have to pay but this is simply not true - this includes St Peters Basilica - you only pay for the Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel. Beware of false advertising and ticket scams.

We bought the combined Colloseum and Palatine Hill ticket and were restricted to viewing the Roman forum and ruins from the top. The views were breathtaking and worthwhile the visit. However not much else to do here.

If you have the combined ticket and you have spare time then worth your while taking the stairs to the top, but it’s not a “must-see” attraction.

The lovely gardens and buildings in this public space make a peaceful place to find some quiet and escape the tourist crowds. Great view overlooking Piazza del Popolo.

It's a famous site from the Roman Empire and one that we all go to see as a part of our grand tour. Lots of stones and bits of sculpture scattered around after all the centuries of destruction and looting. Stand and imagine the commerce here that happened on a daily basis for centuries.

This building is extremely imposing and amazing to look at, it was one of the most striking in all of Rome. It was good to see guards in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The cafe at the top had good views of the Colosseum.

The Spanish steps are a beautiful landmark, and during our visit were decorated with flowers. The Trinita dei Monti at the top of the steps is definitely worth seeing, though the Keats-Shelley House was unfortunately closed for lunch when we visited.

The historic center of Rome is the most visited area of Rome. It includes a series of streets, alleys, squares and small squares. It includes three of the most famous squares in Rome: Piazza Navona, Piazza della Rotonda with the Pantheon and Campo di Fiori.
Although it is invaded by tourists, it is always worth it.
In my opinion, it is the best area to sleep in Rome.
With an impressive number of restaurants, terraces, bars and various shops
Ideal for strolling and having a coffee on one of the many terraces while watching the world go by.
