Cheap to go up. Would be spectacular at a clear night. We went up with a 21 month old so couldn't hike to the lighthouse. Views are great though. Small cafe to have a drink whilst waiting for the journey down.

We saw this Villa from our boat ride on Lake Como. It was a light yellow color and the perfect example of Italian classical style. We decided to walk to it from our apartment on Viale Fratelli Rosselli via the lake waterfront that took about 20-25 minutes. The villa was named after an elm planted in the middle of the garden, which unfortunately is no longer there. It was acquired by the city of Como in 1925 and is now used for organized conferences, events, and art exhibitions. It did not cost anything for us to tour the villa, which was good because there was nothing to really see inside…all the rooms were empty except for a room with chairs and a stage. There were a lot of people lounging on the lawn in front of the Villa near the waterfront.

The historical centre of Como is not very big: you can easily walk around it, and enjoy the nice buildings, churches, squares, shops. A relaxing and interesting experience!

If you want amazing views of the entire lake and to be as high as the clouds then this the hike for anyone near Lezzeno or Bellagio. We drove through Bellagio to the Rifugio Martina where we parked outside of the entry way that was marked with the sign “10 minutes by foot,” loosely translated from Italian to English by me. You will walk up to the rifugio, which you should definitely have lunch at after you finish hiking, and continue along the path up the mountain. It’s about 2 hours round trip and, at times, fairly steep.

This church is in the city centre, a few minutes walk from the main Cathedral.
The exterior is still in the original romanesque style, whereas the inside is dominated by baroque.
A nice view in the center of Como.

Very close to the old town centre, Piazza Cavour has a nice view on the lake. You can find on this square some shops, hotels, a small garden with benches where you can enjoy the view.
As of May 2022, extensive works are being done on the lake side, so it is not possible to walk along the lake promenade.

We went to see the opera the Barber of Sivilia on the Teatro Social Como.
    It was lovely.
I advise you to check in the internet for shows in the theater. I tried to book online but I had problems with it.
We checked on the day of the show and there were tickets available (a private box).

The "Broletto" is on a side of Como main Cathedral ("Duomo"). It is a medieval building in stones of different colours (white, grey and red) in romanesque-gothic style, and it is the original seat of the Commune of Como.
It stands between the Cathedral, and the Cathedral's bell tower.
A very interesting view, it is well maintained, and the visit is only of the exterior building.

Visiting Como it’s a must spend 2-3 hours to reach the top of the hill to visit the tower symbol of Como.
The guide tour explains very well the history of the city and all the figures around the tower building in different steps and the battles happened in the centuries.
Close the tower there us a nice location for picnic and a small restaurant with outdoor places.

Given the abundance of really, really old architecture in Italy, sometimes it's nice to visit something a little more recent. The Pre WW2 Rationalist style may not be to everyone's taste but it is part of Italian history so worth a look.

The museum is built in what used to be a garage in the cellar of the technical college. This made it interesting to find the entrance. Anyway, we found it and paid the rather steep entry: €10 per head.
For this we got an audio guide and a map. We really needed the map! It's a labyrinth and the numbered rooms do not follow as expected.

If you like old machinery and history then this is a wonderful museum. Everything is described carefully, and you can get right up to e.g. the Jacquard weaving machine and see how it works. Exhibits are labelled in Italian and English. If you want to know more there is an extra button on the audio guide.

We spent more than an hour in there because it was fascinating. There is a small shop for silk products, but it was a bit disappointing.
