- Naomi L5 contributionsThe commentary was useful, but a little disjointed and hard to hear when you were at the back of the pack. The boat itself was okay - but the gondolier really made it special. He was friendly, chatty and jovial. There are so many companies to choose from - and I really don’t know if there are any savings in pre-booking, but knowing when and where to go was useful. But maybe take a moment to see how your gondolier interacts with customers. Torcello was the best. We only had one day in Venice so we wanted to do this tour so we could try different foods/wines and be confident that we weren’t falling for the tourist traps. Sara took us to multiple hole-in-the-wall places we would have never thought to try and all the food and wine was delicious. And she even taught us some interesting history about the city. And tips on how to be a courteous tourist. She even helped me with some questions I had about train strikes. And she was a lot of fun. - Conor M7 contributionsThe combined tour of the Doge’s Palace and St. Marks was time and money well spent. Our tour guide, Monica, was a wealth of knowledge and brought a great energy to the tour with her enthusiasm and sense of humor.

Both journeys were punctual, and whilst having a meal one night near the Fondamente Nova stop and noticed all the Aliluguna boats seemed to be on time to and from the airport (we wanted to see it was reliable for our return journey so we weren't late for our flight home).
A couple of things to be aware of...
The boats can get full, especially if you have lots of luggage. We weren't allowed on the first one that came because of this, but this meant we were at the front of the queue for the next one that came along. I'm not sure if you can book a specific boat to ensure you set a seat but didn't see an option for this on the website. It may pay to allow a little extra journey time for this when catching a flight.
Second thing is that if you pay for tickets online you still need to get a physical ticket to travel. This means getting to a ticket office with the receipt and/order reference for them to issue a ticket to travel. You cannot just show your emailed booking receipt to travel. This was made clear when booking but I noticed some others have commented on this in their review.
