Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you enjoy ancient history, this site is well worth the time. It requires some easy walking time, and if you go from one end to the other, you might want to make arrangements for a drive back to the start. Nevertheless, the temples and their setting are worth visiting.

Make sure you visit at sunset, it makes it look golden. They had a recent fire in the area, so the surroundings are not pleasant. If you don’t know your history and archeology, hire a guide to tell you all about it, but be careful: a lot of them speak very poor English. Time for the visit of the temple itself: half an hour, but transportation to there is another story.

The building was built over Roman Baths in 1086 but since then it has gone through many renovations, rebuilt mainly because of natural disasters and aggressions. It has been presided over by the French, Swabians, Normans but initially by Byzantine forces who it is believed absconded with artifacts from here that ended up at Istanbul’s Hagia Sofia mosque. The outer façade is topped by a bell tower. Inside there are the usual religious artifacts, statues and beautiful artwork. I was very impressed with the striking flooring.

Sicilian Gothic church completed in 1776. The exterior is stunningly built in the traditional limestone of the area. With its two side towers and central dome behind, it stands out impressively enough to be designated an UNESCO WHS. The inside was redone in white recently after 1990’s earthquake and remains with 3 naves in the shape of a latin cross. Somewhat understated, there’s still some striking artwork inside; paintings of Costantino Carasi, Giovanni Bonomo and Raffaele Politi, significant sculptures, frescoes and religious works. The grand stairs leading to the actual church gives it additional presence and makes for an impressive visual. It's worth your time. UNESCO are never wrong...

Lovely church and a monastery. Please spend a little extra to visit the roof - views are amazing! Nice little garden where you can rest with some drinks and sweets from the local coffee shop (the coffee shop is a bit too busy but not bad).

We were on a guided tour in Ragusa and visited this beautiful baroque church. The cathedral appears in the opening credits of the Italian TV series Inspector Montalbano, and it also features in some episodes, as does the similarly named cathedral of Modica. I am a fan of Inspector Montalbano, so it was nice to visit his ”church”. Before the earthquake of 1693, the Church of San Giorgio stood in the eastern part of Ragusa Ibla, near the Hyblean Garden. Today, the only thing left from the ancient church, demolished in 1718, is the Portal of San Giorgio. After the earthquake of 1693, which destroyed almost entirely the historical center of the town, it was decided to built a new church dedicated to Saint George on the place of the ancient Church of San Nicola. However, the building of Ragusa Superiore – the modern part of the city, developed faster, and the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, erected in 1694, became the main Catholic church of Ragusa, to the discontent of the inhabitants of Ragusa Ibla.

Incredible ride up Mount Pelligrino on the 812 bus next to the Politeama Theatre. Be careful on the way back; they take a different route. Go to the shrine in the late afternoon. There is no one there.

Went into the church, it looked beautiful from the inside and we also went to the top.
The view was stunning and definitely worth it. It cost 10€ to see everything

Beautiful chapel of sorts, very elaborate plaster figures surrounding the chapel, worth a visit. Apparently this chapel was not used to serve mass, but as a place for discussion and speeches.

This is a huge church which I found more interesting to visit than the Palermo Cathedral. It is beautiful inside and contains the burial site of Giovanni Falcone, the Italian judge assassinated by the mafia.

Worth seeing to wonder at the money this must have cost at the time. And the puzzle of what they do with the income from the entrance fees because it doesn’t go to upkeep.

This temple is only partially surviving but this does not detract from its present. It can be enjoyed from multiple angles and photo opportunities. The most interesting aspect for me was in its restoration and the story around one mans dedication to that end.

A pretty little church up loads to steps, but so worth the view. You can’t go all the way up to the castle but the view from the little church is amazing

I really loved the worn look of Chiesa di San Nicolo All'Arena and it's doubtful the facade will ever be completed. It was built in the late 1600's and, as with many buildings in Sicily, took a hit from an earthquake. It was reconstructed in 1735. There is an adjoining Benedictine Monastery (Monastery di San Nicolò l'Arena) that holds the title of the second largest monastery in Europe. The interior includes a sundial and organ. I especially enjoyed the wide columns. And climb to the top so you have a panoramic view.

This is a must. It is not everyday you get to see such a bizarre architecture. Impossible to miss! Also, not to miss the inside.
