We booked the Castelmola & Taormina trip and were very impressed with whole experience. It started off with a wonderful drive through the hills and tunnels following the coastline which had spectacular views. We visited Castelmola first where we took a walk through the small village and made our way to the top where we had magnificent views of the mountainside and coast. We then visited Taormina where we received an excellent walking tour from Gabrielle who highlighted all the significant historical landmarks as well as gave us some restaurant recommendations that were fantastic.
We spent an incredible day visiting Mt. Etna and exploring the area. We then were treated to a wonderful lunch with a vineyard tour and wine tasting. Our knowledgeable guide, Vittorio, was an absolute pleasure as he knew all of the best places to go to for views. He grew up in the area and hikes Etna frequently. Everyone in the area knows him and they all went out of their way for us. It was truly a special day. I highly recommend this excursion.
We were taken in our group of 6 to a Mt Etna base camp where we were provided with v effective walking boots and offered extra coats. We were guided by our fluent Italian speaker Nicola who has an amazing knowledge of vulcanology and took us to the caves in the volcano foothills and then on to a series of craters from where we experienced stunning views of the active section currently spewing largely steam and gas but nevertheless- a spectacular display. We were then taken back to base camp for lunch and given a chance to sample the delightful locally produced wine. A great trip - thanks again to Nicola!
Taormina is a beautiful town overlooking the sea. There are many, many shops, restaurants etc and it is great for just walking around. You can go for an hour or half a day, either way, it is really worthwhile and relaxing.
Chef Mimmo was truly amazing!! We went shopping at the local market for the food items, had a private Mercedes take us to his restaurant where we did the cooking class. The restaurant was not open for business during the class. The restaurant was very nicely decorated, spacious and very clean and organized for our class. We were with one another couple that day and we all agreed this was a truly epic experience. The food items we prepared with the instructions of Chef Mimmo were truly the best meal we had in Taormina. He was so funny, kind, relatable and gracious. He emailed all the recipes to us so we could make at home.My husband and I look forward to taking another cooking class from Chef Mimmo when we visit Taormina again. I highly recommend beyond a shadow of a doubt this cooking class with Chef Mimmo!! Thanks Chef Mimmo for a truly unforgettable experience!!
Massimo's classes were absolutely GREAT! Many dishes were prepared in each class. And the meals were the best of our 10 day stay in Taormina. And what fun it was learning so much about Sicilian food. The braised sea bass was the best fish I ever had. This is no exaggeration. Massimo has a great talent for teaching and knowing his craft. The views from his place were so beautiful. Can't say enough. Highly recommend.
Food and wine were fantastic! The olive oil is an unsung hero and delicious. We had 5 glasses: 1 as a welcome with a talk about the vineyard; 4 with the food with top-ups throughout. We also got a glass of Prosecco, although this was something we asked for, rather than given. We were then invited to see the cellars where the wine is processed before buying/ordering any wines.
The weather was cloudy so I can’t comment on the views, but I’m sure they’re stunning. The drive to the vineyard is beautiful so they must only get better with height.
Andrea as a guide is brilliant. He’s fluent in French and English and translated everything into both languages. He’s funny and a very talented opera singer.
Amazing experience definitely recommend. The day consists of a tour of some of the most beautiful places on the Taormina coast by boat and snorkeling in populated waters with exotic fish
Sicily is beautiful, friendly, uncrowded! Skip the crowds of the mainland and go to Sicily! Driving is 'easier' but still challenging with the speed-demers and parking if necessary but the highways are relatively easy especially if you have a 'co-pilot'!
Amazing , Welcoming , personable . A traditional family feel . Coming from a family with many Sicilian traditions , I felt at home like in my own mamma's kitchen . I can not say enough . We felt at home . So much education on pizza making we were desperate to learn ,as we had a personal interest in making the perfect wood burning oven pizza . Im a sucker for family and tradition and you will definitely find that here . Best cooking class I've been to yet .
Jerry was an amazing guide, sensible, knowledgeable and adaptable. He created a story out of the entire experience and explained not only the history of Taormina, Greek Theatre and Sicily in general, but also discussed cultural ramifications, linguistic heritage and philosofical schools of thinking and acting. We really enojoyed his relaxed way of being and were pleased we could actually have conversations and getting our multiple questions asked.
Chef was excellent, there were six of us in the early evening, restaurant was busy, but we had two tables set aside, one for preparing our pasta and pizza, the other for consumption. Great fun ,good instructions, all in all wonderful experience
Marcello was our guide for the Godfather Tour from Taormina. Everything was handled very professionally.
Pickup was on time; his driving was great. We always felt safe, even on Sicily's narrow, winding roads. The van was comfortable and our 4-guest tour was very uncrowded.
Marcello was very knowledgeable about the Godfather films. (His grandfather was an extra in some of the scenes!) In Savoca, he introduced us to the woman who played Appolonia's mother!
We had granitas at Bar Vitti in Savoca, then walked up to the church where the wedding was held in The Godfather (1). We had a few minutes to visit the local souvenir shop.
Marcello was full of facts. For instance, did you know that FF Copola's daughter was in all three movies? OR that DeNiro spent months in Sicily prior to shooting to learn the local language / dialect / accent?
We would strongly recommend this tour. It's one you can't refuse!
