What travellers are saying
- Ed BPortland, ME245 contributionsVisiting the walled city of San Gimignano.....the Manhattan of Italy......was a wonderful treat. Medival in appearance for sure.....cobblestones, narrow walkways, not a bit of flat surface....either going up or down......it was such fun!!!! A great mix of restaurants, clothing stores, souvenirs, gelato, spritzes to drink......and the locals were very friendly.Written 1 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- keithlamberson1 contributionFantastic people, great wine tasting and lunch, and great views. I did something I had not done in my life, I bought a case of wine to have shipped to the USA. Very easy, very accommodating, highly recommend!Written 8 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Locallass17Burnley, UK3 contributionsWe stayed at Guardastelle for a week to attend our son's wedding and were completely blown away with the love and attention to detail that Fausto, Suzanna and their team put into our stay and making the wedding so special.
We had stayed at Guardastelle 2yrs earlier for a short break and were thrilled to find that our memories were not wrong and that the standard of the accommodation, gardens, pool and wonderful breakfasts were just as good (if not better), not to mention the fabulous views of the Tuscan countryside.
Some of the ladies also enjoyed an afternoon of wine tasting which was fun and accompanied by lovely local produce.
We plan to return to this beautiful place soon and suggested we could accompany our son and daughter -in law each year to celebrate their wedding anniversary - but not sure they would appreciate this !!!Written 29 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Kathy KWeaverville27 contributionsAbsolutely stunning view from the top of this historic tower. Worth the climb! Be there when the bell chimes the hour!Written 2 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MarcoLund, Sweden109 contributionsWorth a visit! The place is quiet, lots of infos regarding the city in its past. The scale of old times’ San Gimignano is perfectly done, really like it!Written 31 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- G.B.871 contributionsThis is one of the best collections of works in the entire city. I absolutely suggest to visit it by means of the cumulative ticket that, besides making the price of the visit really derisory, also provides an audio guide that allows you to understand the meaning of the beautiful works on display.Written 9 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- mjs03Valencia, Spain614 contributionsWe spent 4 nights in May in San Gimignano and our hotel was located in the Piazza della Cisterna. It is a beautiful, medieval square, which now has a few bar/restaurant/wine bars and a few ice cream shops. It was lovely to have a drink or snack at any of the terrace bars, especially in the evening. Be sure to try the ice cream at Dondoli!!Written 3 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Odile BSaint-Doulchard, France2 contributionsDuring our recent camper car trip in Italy, we spent a delightful time in Tuscany. During our stay in San Gimignano we took the opportunity to visit "Il Piano wines and wine tasting". We were met there by Mr David Hughes. The welcome was wonderful.
AÂ tour of their wine making facility along with description of the processes and equipments used was above other wine visits we have done. What a fountain of knowledge is David.
He also found a lovely site for us to park our camper overnight on the property.Â
Lovely swimming pool facility and 180 degree views of Tuscan country side.
Now come to the actual tasting -- Superb. Whites and reds. All excellent, and they also provide a shipping service when there is no more room in your vehicule.

However, once up on the tower, the view will surely leave you breathless and, for that alone, is worth the price of the ticket.Written 9 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- g0rd0n250San Gimignano, Italy7 contributionsIt is well worth visiting this house early on if you are visiting san Gimignano for the first time- and don’t miss the excellent video presentation. This gives a brief insight into the history of both the house and the town and helps put much of what you see later ( such as the frescoes in the duomo) into context.Written 28 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- to_experience_newSweden1,237 contributionsThe tallest tower in San Gimignano is worth the effort. Once you get to the top the view is magnificent, on a clear and sunny day the distance you can see is stunning. You also get a good view of how the Tuscan landscape is shaped. That can be hard when you’re driving in the valleys.Written 13 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Brent I1 contributionHad a blast with the staff at the winery. Great stories and presentation.Very friendly and super educated in their trade.Written 28 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- AlbertSalichsManresa, Spain9,745 contributionsMuseo della Tortura is the typical museum about torture that always there is in medieval towns. It is located in San Gimignano, a wonderful medieval town in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. Really, this museum is very interesting and you can learn a lot about the torture in medieval period and death penalty. In fact, there are two museums: one about torture and one about death penalty. Here you can learn about Middle Ages. Really it is a very interesting museum. Better for adults.

We had the Tuscan light lunch but we could not eat any more the rest of the day. The wines paired beautifully with the food and a really nice host with good explanation.Written 21 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Bonnie HDanbury, CT22 contributionsThis church is easily accessible all year round but is more peaceful in early mornings. The winter months see less tourists and so give the visitor a more tranquil experience.Written 16 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
