If the Belgian "counterpart" is like a fantastic time-capsuling relic, this Basle one is a vivid thing: a well-built museum with a wealth of information in nice and welcoming settings for both adults and children...
Apart from the artefacts on display, the most enjoyable part is the hands-on activities that you can do - especially you can create your own sheet of paper and take it as a souvenir!! kids love it (and also adults).

What a fantastic zoo with well-cared for animals, very clean everywhere and the most amazing family of gorillas including two very young babies!
Always enjoyed the Vivarium with it's amazing variety of fish, snakes, lizzards etc, the kids always enjoyed the part where they could go into the pens to stroke the goats etc.

I love walking through this place and listening to children and church bells and enjoying the architecture and the river views from behind the Munster.
Basel has by far the best with real handicrafts and even demonstrations for kids, a whole range of food stalls and hot wine.

You cannot miss this fantastical facade onto the main Town Square.Deep red with its medieval windows, towers, decoration and detailing the Town Hall is what all children imagine Rapunzal would live in.
I consider this a good place to even take young kids as there is so much to see.

I expecially loved the garden courtyard surrounded by archways, and also all the family crests on the wall.
The kids will love it and most are within walking distance.

A gem! If you appreciate art, or have children who will love the intricacies of movement, make this a must see!!
Fabulous for families, this interactive museum is noisy, colorful and fascinating, spoiled only by the hawkish Swiss security regimen.

I had always loved this garden - my gran-ma often took me here, when I was a small child and I enjoyed feeding the carps in the upper pond.
