Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

She and her story have become iconic for this city, and you see her image evoked all over town. Here is a modern statue of the girl, well-made. Lots of people stop and take photos.

This tower, once part of the city’s fortifications, is a major landmark at a busy intersection near the Bloemenmarket.

You will not miss this 22 metres high monument standing imposingly in the centre of Amsterdam's Dam Square. Definitely not the most impressive monument that you would ever see, but nevertheless, it still serves its purpose as a daily reminder of war's atrocities. Since 1956, it has been the focal point for the annual May 4th National Remembrance Day to commemorate the casualties of World War II and subsequent armed conflicts.

If you want to experience something genuine that has meaning plus perspective on what is happening today matched history - this is the tour.

We were five friends on a really rainy cold Saturday that did the tour despite the terrible weather - it was the best we did in a long time - Alex is an excellent guide with knowledge, an opinion an humor.

We discussed how critical thinking is so important for a democracy - and what i happening around us today is interesting in a scary way - at the same time knowing what happened during the ww2-occupation.

Please experience this - you can do the pubs or whatever later.

    PROS
    * Important historical memorial
    * Subdued monument sunken in the ground- reflecting the tragedy
    * Creative broken glass carries significant message
    * Solemn memorial as there are ashes of incinerated human remains interred in the edifice
    * Located in the old Jewish Quarter and near to the Jewish Museum, Portuguese Synagogue, the soon-to-be-opened Holocaust Museum and not far from the Dutch Resistance Museum
    * Located in lovely quiet Wertheimpark

    CONS
    * Not well enough known or located

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE..."
... because I wanted to specifically see this monument and to honor the memory of those Dutch Jews who were brutally murdered and lost their lives because they were Jews.

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It's free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Of course

    ADVICES
I suggest going a bit out of your way to see this memorial and to honor the victims

This is a monument that commemorates all gay men and woman who have been persecuted because of their sexual orientation and the first monument in the world to remember all gay and lesbians who were killed by the Nazis. I like this monument for what it represents but it’s not the most memorable or exciting and honestly you’d walk right past it and not give it a second glance which is a shame!

We stumbled upon this memorial while exploring the city. It’s eerily amazing. Walls of bricks with the names, birthdates and age of death of holocaust victims. Each brick represents a person. Mirrors over the walls reflect trees, sky and bricks. So many bricks, so many children. We had toured the Anne Frank museum earlier in the day and found Anne’s brick, along with her sister. This monument had a real impact on me. It’s a hauntingly beautiful tribute.

Great place to have a cosy workshop. You see the inside of a real stone grinding windmill, while having your workshop.

Located within Albert Cuyp, stands this memorial, to a famous dutch singer, probably not a stand alone attraction, however, something to see whilst visiting the market.

The statue itself is interesting as a piece. It is on a canal bridge which has some cafes on, so a lovely place to stop for refreshments. Of course you’ll be paying premium prices her though.

Located within the foyer of Stopera concert hall, is this quirky sculpture of a violinist coming out of the floor, quite appropiate considering the setting.

We came out of a tavern where we had done a Jenever tasting and noticed this plaque to the left of the entry to a hotel a few feet away.

Wish I could find that tavern - Cafe de Ooievaar - on TripAdvisor. It was a great tasting with a very informative server. According to its website, it “is one of the smallest tasting rooms of the Netherlands. Its known for the fine jenevers, a comprehensive range of old Dutch liqueurs and of course different beers on tap.”
