I had not seen the house for at nearly 50 years so I was not sure what to expect. The museum now encompasses a much larger area on the street. The initial presentation was excellent and told a great story. The tour with audio was good but some rooms could be busy. - ellenoftroy728Chicago, IL382 contributionsI’m not sure if my review is needed for this highly popular tourist spot, but I’ll leave one nonetheless… This museum really shows the breadth of work completed by Van Gogh, especially towards the end of his life. It was cool to see more than the “classics,” along with the little bits of history as well. It’s a pretty standard museum (text on wall + paintings), so when my boyfriend and I left we found ourselves saying, “Okay, that was fine.” But as the night went on, we found ourselves continuing to go back to paintings and ideas we noticed in the museum. The gift shop was pretty meh, but that’s not what you’re here for. We booked online in advance and were permitted to enter before our assigned time slot, which gave us some extra time to explore the museum. It can be overwhelming, and we were happy to use the museum's guide to "must see" exhibits.
I was disappointed that the Night Watch was under repair and not only behind a glass shield (thanks climate activists) but also blocked by scaffolding. But there were many other surprises that rounded out our visit nicely.
We didn't get the audio guide, but we ran into some acquaintances who were using it and they thought it was helpful. There are lockers and restrooms easily available, plus a cafe and the inevitable gift shop.

Smoking cannabis seemed to be the done thing in the bars whereas smoking cigarettes is banned. People seemed to be chilled and everyone was friendly with us. The girls in the windows were dotted about around the area and it was interesting to see but it felt a bit seedy. - Sue B5 contributionsWe normally have a take away, which is always excellent, but decided to eat in the restaurant on Sunday evening. The food was wonderful, as always. Sunny really looked after us and make the whole experience just how we wanted. Chilled, but everything flowed. No waiting, just good food arriving at the right time. An amazing time on the swing, when I could open my eyes 😂 terrified of heights, but still absolutely loved the experience!
Our package included a meal and drink, with unbelievable views! Definitely a great excursion with even better value for money!

The interior is very simple and the outside architecture is absolutely marvellous. Example: there was markings on the floor to indicate where to go next, and raised bumps to indicate where to stand and read the description or watch a video. The audio tour was not only excellent, but free!
