What travellers are saying
- PJV1426Cincinnati, OH422 contributionsAdored this museum in a very old building with great explanations of both the building and the exhibitions. There was also an excellent short film about Frans Hals and his painting. Highly recommend. Easy 15 minute train trip from Amsterdam and the town of Haarlem is charming.Written 11 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 907blakedTampa, FL1,449 contributionsWe really enjoyed stopping into this church during our time in Haarlem. It is absolutely gorgeous, particularly the massive organ (that Mozart played as a child). Definitely recommended!Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BigHildaLongview, TX208 contributionsThis was a major highlight of our trip to The Netherlands! We have read a lot about Corrie from her books and another recent book called "The Watchmaker's Daughter" (highly recommend before you go). The tour guide was excellent, and we really felt like we were "guests" in Corrie's family home. The tour took about 1.5 hours, and you do need to reserve online in advance. There is no specific charge for the tour, but there is a place to make a donation. The stories from the tour guide were excellent - they held our attention and our kids' attention as well. You can take pictures, in most rooms, unlike at the Anne Frank House. My kids were even allowed to race from the first floor to the hiding place and see how long it took them. It is fantastic to be able to actually go into the hiding place itself and see what people had to go through during the war. It brought so much together for us as a family to see where Corrie and Betsie and her family helped so many people during the war. Make sure you do not miss this tour!Written 18 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 907blakedTampa, FL1,449 contributionsWe spent a few hours in Haarlem during one of our days in Amsterdam. Very easy to purchase round-trip train tickets (the same day of our travel - no advance reservations needed) from the main ticket distribution center at Central Station in Amsterdam for about 10 euros each. Very easy to then hop on the train and get to Haarlem. There are five or six trains running every hour from Amsterdam Central Station to Haarlem, so you can always find a train quickly. Once in Haarlem, it’s a very nice walk to the center market, the churches, and the rest of Haarlem. A very cute town, and not nearly as busy as an Amsterdam.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deborah MChicago, IL348 contributionsThis museum is absolutely remarkable! Plan to stay at least two hours, as this is a place where you want to stop and savor the beautifully curated works. This museum isn't just for lovers of the natural world -- there are also works of art.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Wendy J5 contributionsStaff were incredibly welcoming and the audio guide is very interesting.
The light through the stained glass windows in the church is quite something. Make sure to pay extra couple of euros to walk up to the top of the dome AND to the top of the clock tower. Beware there are a lot of narrow, winding steps .....and I mean a lot!
The design, colour and splendour of dome can only be appreciated from the top so worth the climb.
After another climb, views of the city from the top of the Clock Tower are fab and the extra thrill of seeing the three enormous bells was an added bonus. Overall a really enjoyable visit and pleased we made the stop.Written 15 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This park is well-maintained, has a cute little restaurant with drinks and food, has a great petting zoo, has sculptures, trails, and fountains. - TimWasHereTilburg, The Netherlands54 contributionsStumbled across this quite by chance on the way to the Frans Hals Hof museum. Part of the museum was closed due to preparations for a new exhibition soon, but what we did see was interesting. Having a museum card it didn't cost anything to get in.Written 6 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - phat_dawg_21Alpharetta, GA13,464 contributionsThis is said to be the oldest Hofje in The Netherlands.
