Ghent City Center
#1 of 93 Sights & Landmarks in Ghent
The city centre of Ghent is without any doubt the most wonderful in Belgium: very accessible, a perfect mix of shops and touristic attractions, great sights and wonderfull museas.
... more nice stuff to see in Bruges but the nice stuff in Ghent is nicer!! Just to walk along the canals or just sit and chill with a snack or beverage while admiring the fantastic buildings and views is a must-do.

having a walk around with the marvelous views from both sides of the river as well as during sunny day as during night with marvelous lightening, is a must!
Surrounded by historic buildings, some dating back to 13th Century, this was a fascinating and interesting spot to stroll around and take in the sights and sounds.

Interesting shops and restaurants line the street and you have a beautiful view of the river and the buildings that line it.
Belfry and Cloth Hall (Belfort en Lakenhalle)
#7 of 93 Sights & Landmarks in Ghent
The view from the top is most fascinating as you can see the beauty of Ghent, if you had a proper guide you can see the starting point of Ghent, Portus Ganda from the tower.
... but that was fine... !! Each floor up had a different display and once at the top, there was the chance to circumnavigate the tower, which amazingly I managed to do - and very glad I did too - amazing views!

Saint Nicholas Church
#8 of 93 Sights & Landmarks in Ghent
Saint Nicholas' Church is built in the local Gothic style the beginning of 13th century, and is one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent.
We called in to view the Church and were delighted by the carvings, statues and general detail of the decor.

Korenmarkt
#9 of 93 Sights & Landmarks in Ghent
A nice place to wander by a compact area full of sites from modern builds to old historical sites and alfresco cafes.
If you stay in the city center, you can walk all around the area, enjoy the sights, smells (crispy waffles everywhere!), and feel the charm of this city.
Patershol
#10 of 93 Sights & Landmarks in Ghent
Enter these narrow lanes and take in the sights of old houses and old buildings turned into restaurants.
Post Plaza
#11 of 93 Sights & Landmarks in Ghent
There are terrific views all around this plaza of the churches and old Post Office, but if you can, a stay in the The Post is a must.
There are also several landmarks within a 5 minute walking distance!
Saint Peter's Abbey
#12 of 93 Sights & Landmarks in Ghent
The highlight was going into the church, where the tour goes up the back of the organ and you get an awesome view of the church from a balcony.
Ghent Town Hall (Stadhuis)

It is hard to pick something special in Gent as there are so many spectacular sights to impress us.

Always changing - if possible visit several days or weeks apart, the view is always changing.
Those who don't like grafitti don't have to view it, and those that do can become saturated in it.
