The drive to the thermal pools is not for the faint hearted! Part of the way is a dirt track and we worried our little car wouldn’t make it. If possible go the long route round! The chicane travelling to the beach and back up is also pretty scary but it is worth it. We went at 10am and at first there were very few people, but when we left at 11am it was getting busy. The sea is so cold you can hardly believe it will be warm, but it was like a hot bath, even too hot in some spots! The ladder down is steep but short. I would advise beach shoes but plenty didn’t use them. Hold onto the rope once you’re inside as it can get quite choppy, but what an amazing experience! There are changing rooms next to the car park - we will definitely go back!

The gardens are a short walk up hill from the main town centre and cost five euro each to enter. The gardens are very nice and have many paths winding around the gardens. There is also a small chapel hidden away and also a cafe. We had a nice stroll around for an hour or so, worth a visit.

The gates are a lovely entrance to the pedestrian area of downtown. The contrast of the white and black is stunning and makes for a popular photo stop. I hear they are lit up at night but I didn’t get to see them since we were only in port for the day.

I took the full day west sao miguel tour on may 9th with nuno.
    He was informative,engaging and humorous.
He gave us time to explore on our own and also asked us what we were interested in.
His love and respect for the island was evident.
We saw so much in one day and learned about the culture, the people and the ecology.
My only complaint was the lunch buffet except the desserts.
You will not be disappointed in the tour.

Our driver, GUI, was very informative and courteous. He made sure we were safe and our personal items were secure. Not an adventure for the faint hearted, this is a true 4x4 experience!!!

There were 3 of us that stopped at this great little shop after a tour of Sao Miguel. This shop was well known by our tour guide and he recommended several cheeses that the shop was known for. We tasted a number of cheese, and purchased 2 wedges which the shop kindly vacuum packed for our travel. I also purchased a bottle of 20 year Port that cost less than 2 glasses of a similar aged Port back home in the US. When you visit this shop, be sure to ask how it got its name.

First of all, the company's service is great- they answered on WhatsApp very quickly every time we needed, even for the smallest things. The tour had an amazing view and was super fun. As someone who's not doing extreme sports I can say it fits all, even kids. Our guide Zé and Carlos were very friendly and know how to encourage you and make you feel the safest with equipment and instructions, plus they were great with the kids in our group who enjoyed too. They also take great pictures😎 100% recommend!

My time with Picos de Aventura was phenomenal! Beatriz and Francisco were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Francisco's expertise during the whale-watching tour was really interesting—he provided insightful commentary in multiple languages (also in English, of course), and we were lucky to spot dolphins and a blue whale! Both Francisco and Beatriz also shared valuable local tips, from places to visit to restaurants for traditional food. Following their recommendations led us to delightful hidden places away from the tourists. I highly recommend it!

There are two pools, the nature ones in the sea and then paid. The paid ones consist of open pool and spa center. The open one for 8€ is a crap. Not really warm, the pool in worst condition lucky that I did not paid as my friend. I do not have any experience with spa center.

Than the are free seapools but unfortunately this “natural spa center” work only during low tides. But even when you can experience it you can just walk and side by the sea and relax. There are no cabins to change, the the volcanic surface is sharp so be careful. The seap pools are not suitable for children due the strong currents. We really enjoyed just walking around this remote and serene place. To get here you need car/taxi.

Cracking organisation. Friendly, thorough, meticulously organised and super helpful. Can't fault it. Great check in and sort out of kit. Celina, the guide was very informative. I chomped through my air on the first dive, being the oldest and fattest of the group, but Celina was happy to share so we didn't have to cut the dive short for the other two. Great stuff.

Our half day tour which included a visit to the tea plantaion was excellent but ended up as a whole day tour, and we had to request an early return to the ship or it would have gone on a lot longer. Our driver and guide was Cesar and he knew everything about the island and every one on it, it seemed.
We were two couples in a Merceded Sprinter and the tour was significantly less expensive than the Celebrity Cruise offering of something similar, but was probably a mush better tour with a local guide and a group of four that made the tour quite personal. Overall one of the best excusrsions we have ever been on, and one that made us really feel like visiting the island of Sao Miguel again.

This review is 70/30 I will do the plus first - the boat trip and the zodiac were both very good, well organised, nice staff, good commentary, rough sea on the boat trip, i’d recommend sickness pills, the zodiac (Jessica) was better conditions, we saw whales & dolphins, superb experience, how can we continue to allow climate change to increase and put nature at such serious risk !!

half day trip to thermal pools is worthwhile our guide (Eulalia) was very good

the full day trip (citades) is well worth the trip, again an excellent guide
(sincere apologies to her, as we have no name) very informative, cycling & kayaking really good

the full day (furnas) trip was again excellent with Nuno guiding, very knowledgeable and a great guy

the lunch on both full day tours was good

the negative - some of the staff at check in are incredibly rude and abrupt they clearly have no software system in place, they ask for your first name….cannot find, they ask for your surname….cannot find, they ask for the time….cannot find, they tell you they have lots of tours & bookings…..they get frustrated at you as a result….so that is the customers fault ! their search criteria is rubbish, some of them are very unprofessional and rude due to their own failings, this is a big business, lots of tours daily leaving at similar times, hence lots of people arriving, it is 2024, simple software allowing search by surname / tour / time…..or all 3 ! would make the whole process more enjoyable and acceptable, instead they are clearly frustrated and seem to think it is the clients fault or the 3rd party bookers fault (where applicable) crazy as this could be easily rectified with nominal investment, some training on customer service, manners/respect and generally being polite would work wonders too - Sorry but true !

We had three tours with Pedro and Tiago, a full day Furnas Valley Excursion, a half day Lagoa do Fogo excursion and a half day Sete Cidades excursion. We were with Pedro for one and Tiago (Pedro's nephew) for the other two. There were all amazing tours with guides who clearly love the Azores and love their work. They were very informative and humorous and went out of their way to ensure we all had a great time. We can't recommend Pedro Ferreira Azores Tours enough, great people and great tours - highly recommended. Thank you both for the memories.
