If you can get a seat this vintage tram is a lovely way to trundle around Lisbon. Your best bet is to get on at the start or end of the journey. Our hotel was right opposite the tram stop so we used it all the time. Sometimes we got seats and sometimes we didn't, but with seats it was great.

Buy a travel or Lisboa Card to avoid the €3 (cash only) fare.

We had a visit planned to the oceanarium so thought it would make sense to take in a good view of the Vasco Da Gama bridge and tower so the logical way to travel to the Oceanarium would be the cable cars.

A joint ticket with the Oceanarium saved a little money, so worth doing if you are going to do both.

The ride was pretty smooth and gave a lovely view out over the Tagus and took about 10 minutes. Each cabin comfortably seats four adults and a photo is taken as you leave should you be interested in purchasing.

    A nice way to travel.

What a cute little tram! I was surprised to find it actually running now, right on schedule, even though there's a new lockdown and there are barely any people on the streets, both tourist or locals...

    as the TA site says...
Funicular railway that leads to the São Pedro de Alcântara Miradouro overlook and the chiado district above Lisbon.
There are many ways to get up here - steps, elevators in buidlings, Santa Justa elevador...but one night we had a dinner near the top of the funicular so we took this as a kick. I think it was about 3.80 E each. You can pay the driver in cash. You can walk right up next to it, but it is pretty steep. It's a very easy to find site, right off the main drag Avenue Liberdade, not far from Rossio train station; it's an ancient trolley covered with graffiti. You know, it was worth it!

An important part of the overall public transit system. These old cars are not just for fun, but they also transport people through very hilly neighborhoods where it is difficult to walk. All for a very low price. And a lot of fun.

This Metro system is very good. The frequency of the trains is excellent and the electronic signs tell you when the next one is coming. Unfortunately the lines are limited and to get to many parts of town you have to supplement the Metro. The biggest negative is that there are always stairs one way or another. The elevators and escalators often don't work, and even when they do, there are stairs.

It's a good public transit system and we used a lot of it. If you add a bunch of Euros to your Via Viagem card you get very cheap rides on all systems. Frequent service. Only negative is the omnipresent staircases in the Metro and malfunctioning elevators and escalators.

We used the trains several times during our stay in Lisbon, travelling both around the city as well as to some regional destinations. We found the trains cheap, clean, on time and very reliable. When we required assistance from the staff they were professional and quite helpful. Based on our experience we would strongly recommend travelling by trains while in Portugal.

If you want a ride on a vintage tram, this one might be a good alternative to the number 28 line, which is often way too crowded. It does go up the hill and covers a lot of the city, so it may also take you where you need to go.

This is where you catch the regular ferry service across the river to the towns on the other side. Some famous fish restaurants there. You buy your tickets from a machine or stand in line for the guichet. Lots of people around and a super market for food.

Save your legs and use the funicular to get up the steep hills. Short ride, but well worth it. Recommended.

We found the transport system pretty easy to navigate, using the Metro, CP Trains, Trams, and of course the TukTuks.

We used the train to travel to Sintra on a one day return trip. Buying the tickets was very simple and easy without any hassles, at Rossio station which is an old, but large and, architecturally quite nice station. The train was good, safe and clean and we found seats easily. The trip itself was comfortable and we arrived at our destination on time. The same was the case on our return trip.

Sonia is a delightful tour guide. Her warm personality and beaming smile makes an all day tour with her an unforgettable experience.
My husband and I were anxious to visit Evora and the megaliths but Sonia suggested we add Monsaraz to our itinerary. What a beautiful city with spectacular views and a few nice shops. She reservations at a restaurant for lunch overlooking a beautiful lake. It was most certainly one of the most delicious meals we’ve had in Portugal and the views were fantastic.
From there we toured Evora, the monastery of Saint Francis, the Chapel of the Bones and the Temple of Diana. Sonia was always attentive to our needs furnishing water breaks and helping us maneuver the slopes and stairs.
Our last stop was the megaliths outside of Evora-one of my husbands life long dreams. We arrived as the hot sun was disappearing behind the clouds and made the short walk to the stones. His wish was fulfilled!
Thank you Sonia for making our trip to Portugal a magical experience.
