Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are plenty of hills in Lisbon, so why not go on a tram or a funicular. so we stumbled across a funicular and joined the line in the scorching Portuguese sunshine. We paid cash to the driver who was possibly the most miserable man in Lisbon.

We then sat and waited and then it started and up the hill we went. It's nothing spectacular but it is definitely a must do and I'm happy we did it.

We used the local subway station the next day and we saw Mr Misery on the escalator presumably after his daily shift. Yes, he looked the same as he had the day before.

Never mind him. There's still fun in funicular.

Booked a one way ticket for 4 to Lisbon
Didn’t want to catch the 7am “ fast train “
So took the midday “milk run”
Turned out to be a very nice ride and saw a lot of Portugal from my window

I am reviewing LISBOA CARD for any tourists thinking of taking this card.

The underground network in Lisboa is very good. It costs approximately 6.60 Euros a day and includes the bus. However if you are thinking to take the Lisboa card including the transport with the Tram and pass to the Museum, I would definitely advise you not to do it. The Lisboa card costs 48 Euros for three days and it does not include all the entrances to the museum, you get a very small discount of 10 or 20 % to enter some of the museums. If I am in Lisbon again I would get day passes for the public transport and just pay full price for any museums I am interested in.

We used the train to travel to Sintra on a one day return trip. Buying the tickets was very simple and easy without any hassles, at Rossio station which is an old, but large and, architecturally quite nice station. The train was good, safe and clean and we found seats easily. The trip itself was comfortable and we arrived at our destination on time. The same was the case on our return trip.

Everyone acts like having the Via Viagem card will save money, but this is not true. I would recommend buying one to use for trips to Sintra or Cascais, just to avoid lines to get a ticket, but otherwise it is more expensive than just buying a ticket. There is a negligible discount of about 14 cents for public transportation within Lisbon (I did hear that it is less expensive than buying single 28 tram or elevator/funicular tickets) - but if you really need to get around in Lisbon you can buy a one-way ticket that lasts for 90 minutes. Otherwise your balance is deducted every time you change a form of transportation. I madesure to save enough for a one-way ticket to the airport, but after having swiped it once on the bus it was refused on the metro and I had to pay again. Naturally you are unable to buy a single ticket on the machine, so I was forced to add another 3 euros to my card to take the metro to the airport, resulting in a total cost of nearly 5 euros for what should have been a 1,90 trip. I was in Lisbon a week and only used the public transport twice a day, with additional two-way tickets to Cascais and Sintra (which total 9 euros altogether), but I ended up charging up my Via Viagem card with more money than it would have taken me to buy a monthly ticket.

Although potentially a good Metro system there were virtually NO lifts working on most of the system when we visited. Only a few stations have escalators and these only serve some of the levels. According to the staff in our hotel the lack of working accessability has been going on for a long time - a useless Metro system even if you are only partially disabled
