Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- HalawaLondon, UK31 contributionsA beautiful place near Lisbon! Highly recommend a little visit and just take in the wonderful air and architecture. - Ogi0Sofia, Bulgaria23,022 contributionsAn extremely interesting aquarium. We visited on January 1st, there was no queue to enter. Unfortunately, the penguin section was closed, but there are many other interesting things to see.Written 7 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kate W20 contributionsAbsolutely gorgeous building. Shame the church was shut for renovation but as I understand it the entrance to the church is free anyway so it's not like we were paying for something we didn't get. There isn't a lot of explanation/signage/ historical interpretation but we just used Wikipedia! Well worth a visit. Also walk to the monument of the discoveries and Belem tower whilst in the area they are both worth a look. We had a lovely day in this area of Lisbon. ❤️Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kate W20 contributionsWe didn't feel the need to go in the tower but it's 100% worth a walk down the riverfront from the monastery to see it. Very imposing beautiful building - I was surprised it was actually in the sea!Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Batty1960United Kingdom37 contributionsHaving seen the castle perched on a very steep hill as we arrived at our hotel, I wasn't particularly keen on visiting it. We actually set off on an exploratory stroll, starting off from Martim Moniz with two very steep escalators and carried on through the narrow winding streets and steep steps until we reached the castle wall. The actual entrance proved to be still some distance away, but it was interesting walking through the Alfama district and the oldest parts of the city.
It was worth the effort for the views alone. The castle is well maintained ( for a ruin) and has the largest collection of peacocks I have ever seen. The small museum displays items discovered on archaeological digs and explains the Carnation Revolution clearly. We somehow missed the Camera Obscura and I've recently discovered that there is even a hotel within the walls.
It was quite busy, even in February, but the queue was not too long. The worst thing was heading for what we thought was the exit, only to be diverted back and then have a rather long walk back to where we had entered. Fortunately, we discovered a lift down to Rua da Madalena, which eased the walk back to the hotel. Definitely wear comfy shoes!Written 4 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Love the architecture and the great photo opportunities.Written 7 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - canadianinriyadhArizona221 contributionsWe walked all the way up as the tram seemed to be taking a break despite many people waiting for it. We were looking for the street art but only places we found some, they had quite a bit of graphite. Grabbed some lunch at a square that was set up with huts serving all kinds of foods and drinks and grabbed a bite there and people watched while we eat. Some street musicians which were great and a couple of art students selling their paintings. Walked around and enjoyed the views, and weaved our way along the amazing streets some lined with restaurants till we got back to the bottom and along the water front and headed back to hotel.Written 6 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Resort591225648332 contributionsAbsolutely brilliant! Popped into the Gulbenkian Museum while in Lisbon, and I’ve gotta say, it’s an absolute gem. The collection is top-drawer – everything from ancient artefacts to stunning modern pieces. The layout’s spot on, dead easy to wander through without feeling overwhelmed. Proper peaceful vibe too, perfect for a slow stroll taking it all in. Staff were friendly, knew their stuff, and the gardens outside? Just lush! Could’ve sat there all day. Well worth a visit if you’re in town – 5 stars, no doubt!Written 4 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brigitte LCalgary, Canada29 contributionsPerfect place to visit when the weather is unstable. History of the Portuguese tile: making, colours, molds, and of course many pieces to admire. A smattering of modern creations. Fell in love with a couple of them.
The building itself, a converted monastery, is worth visiting. I do love those arches.Written 17 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. An elegant bohemian neighbourhood that essentially transports you back to the Belle Epoque era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, there's much to see and do (as well as to eat) here. Though most of the buildings originated from the 18th century, many were restored after a devastating fire in 1988. On the map, it appears next to the commercial district of Baixa, but on the ground, these 2 districts are located on 2 distinct elevations, with Baixa at the ground level whilst Chiado is on the higher elevation. This historic and cultural district is not too big and can easily be covered by foot once you get there by metro train, stopping at the Baixa-Chiado station and exiting on the Chiado side. With Rua Garrett shopping street as its spine, the area is constantly buzzing with people amidst the many boutique shops, cafes, theatres and museums dotting the neighbourhood. Not to be missed here are Livraria Bertrand (the world's oldest bookstore from 1732), Carmo Convent (Gothic church ruins that survived the devastation of the 1755 earthquake) and the Santa Justa lift that descends to the Baixa district. Its higher elevation also naturally means there are numerous lookout points or "miradouros", providing a sweeping panoramic view of the city below.Written 17 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Svetlana Balashova10 contributionsBreathtaking view. Worth the effort. The road back down will allow you to explore the old town. Can get there by a taxi. One of the best panoramas of the city.Written 4 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Brigitte LCalgary, Canada261 contributionsThe very controversial monument (as it celebrates colonialism and was built during the dictatorship) is nonetheless rather interesting. We caught ourselves trying to find the trades represented. It had an almost military look. Reminiscent of the Russian cemetery in Berlin). Quite stunning facing the sea.

We learned this the hard way because we happened to be near the cemetery and thought we'd take it back, but they are only running a shuttle bus out there.
We did grab it one evening after dinner from Graca and it was fun, but it was dark so we didn't see as much.Written 16 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ZéLisbon, Portugal15 contributionsColombo is pretty much the most iconic shopping mall in Lisbon. Has been so ever since it opened 25 or so years ago. It has all sorts of shops and places to eat/buy food. If you're looking for something, you're likely to find it here.Written 22 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
