Wow is all i can say this beach is sooo beautiful we arrived 1700 in the evening when the daytime tourists had been and gone it exceeded my expectations however word of warning to those who dont like heights the drive to get to it are hairpin roads sheer drops but oh so very beautiful the views enroute even if heights scare you are amazing and worth it we stayed for about 90 mins just walking paddling taking in the sight not commercialised at all but through the various villages enroute were tavernas restaurants and souvenir shops dotted around. Would highly recommend hiring car and going to this beautiful beach our car was 50 euros and 20 euros petrol for the day but we saw loads of tourist attractions and some not tourist places that would never have got to see on a tour and saved money as the trip through company would have been 30 euros each

The beach is very beautiful, probably the most beautiful I have ever seen. The water is cristal clear and there are umbrellas and chairs you can purchase for the day. This beach is also great for young kids since the water is really shallow. That being said, the drive to this beach is far from enjoyable. You have to drive around 8 miles on the side of a cliff on a dirt road before you even get to the parking lot. Once you arrive, it’s another mile down to the beach. I would recommend bringing sneakers for the walk down, since the terrain is rocky and is a little difficult to do in flip flops. Do not bring any beach chairs with you, as you do not want to carry them back up the mountain when you are done. I would also recommend going earlier in the morning because all the chairs will fill up. If you go early enough, you can get a chair right on the water and it is very pleasant.

An incredible collection of Minoan artefacts displayed well. It’s really worth visiting here before heading to Knossos!
The air conditioning was also a welcome bonus!

Me and my partner came here as she was searching for a place to look at reptiles and fish, safe to say this did not disappoint!

The staff there are so helpful and lovely. No question was to much for them and they were happy to answer any difficult or concerning questions.

We chose to take the long drive to Falassarna from the beautiful online pictures as we were already in Chania for the day having driven from our Rehtymno hotel. So first the maps app gave us directions to the wrong beach and maybe it is also called Falassarna but it was right in the Chania town. The real Falassarna beach was an hour out and it had stunning turquoise water. The parking is close by with a short walk (5”) to beach. There are sun beds and umbrellas for 30 euro (2 lounges and an umbrella). We brought our own towels and umbrella and it was not good because the gusts of wind were powerful and relentless for hours. Around 4pm the offshore winds lessened. There was plenty of room to put up umbrellas and lots of people doing so. The smart ones had stakes and strings to tie down the edges of their umbrella and their umbrellas didn’t budge. We had to lay ours diagonally and sit with our backs against the inside of the umbrella to get the shade it provided at this angle. At any rate, the water is clear and gorgeous and has some waves, but not big waves that we see in California (thankfully). I enjoy floating around and not having to worry about keeping an eye out for big waves to decide whether I have to swim toward it and go under it or what. Just floating around worry free is what it’s like at Falassarna and the water gradually gets deep though I can still touch the bottom with and I am 5’5”. Water temp was lovely and easy to get into unlike some Crete beaches we visited where it was distinctly cooler water. There are several restaurants at the beach on the sand. Showers, bathrooms, and changing stalls.

The iconic landmark of Chania, the Venetian Harbour highlights the true importance of the city during the Venetian era of Crete. The architectural legacy is fascinating and a delight to view.

The atmosphere is so strange.............. If you go arund yu will feel it better.
The monastery played an active role in the Cretan resistance to Ottoman rule during the Cretan revolt of 1866. 943 Greeks, mostly women and children,[1] sought refuge in the monastery. After three days of battle and under orders from the hegumen (abbot) of the monastery, the Cretans blew up barrels of gunpowder, choosing to sacrifice themselves rather than surrender.
The monastery became a national sanctuary in honor of the Cretan resistance. 8 November is a day of commemorative parties in Arkadi and Rethymno. The explosion did not end the Cretan insurrection, but it attracted the attention of the rest of the world.Source: Wikipedia

Amazing Museum, been to a lot of museums but this was absolutely beautiful, so picturesque and well preserved. My kids aged 12, 8 and 6 had a great time exploring the grounds. The cafe was lovely with free wifi. The growing fruit trees with fruit on them, how people lived in crete and the beautiful landscape was so great. We spent a good 3 hours there.

Easy trail through the garden. Many different colorful plants and lovely animals. The trail ended where you started and you could have some food in the restaurant if you like.

What a place! This is an absolute treasure trove for any football fan. Flekkas has really created something special with that collection and has an encyclopaedic knowledge that blew me away. His passion for the game and particularly got the Greek team is totally infectious, such a warm and welcoming guy.

Being Scottish, he pulled out about four different Scotland shirts and rattled off the year, the game, the score, and could name some of our best players (a short list, fair enough! Lol) and their games, tournaments, scores - without hesitation! Incredible!

He gave us a very warm welcome to Chania and we really enjoyed being guided round the collection and getting to hold the actual 2004 Euro Cup. The ball from the last game when Greece beat Portugal was also a highlight (and something you can tell Flekkas is very proud of!) as well as the Maradonna shirt (WOW!)

    Highly recommend!

Incredible view and such a serene lake. There were many geese here when we visited and they were quite brazen and getting close to people which was quite amusing. Some seating area but there was someone stood next to it so likely payment was required to ‘hire’ a lounger for the day. Would definitely recommend a visit there, perhaps with a good book or drawing material. People were swimming in the lake and it seemed to have attached numerous families who were playing nearby, almost like a beach. There are toilets here, which require the loo roll to not be flushed, but they were pretty gross. Too many people using them and not enough being cleaned. The smell of sewage was very strong here which was a shame. There were also numerous stalls to keep visitors entertained whilst exploring.

'Matala Beach' is a very pretty, historic little cove due south of Iraklion. The little beach town has numerous shops, bars, and restaurants, but the water and the caves are the main draw here.
Crystal clear - if wavy/choppy - water will lure you in. Brace yourself for high winds, and thus being sand-blasted, but if you can tolerate that, there are some nice caves to visit and the water is great!

We visited the Cretan Aquarium and it really is a jewel for Crete! There is a great variety of sea creatures and living marine organisms worth a visit! Then we went to Gouves for food at the Asteria Garden restaurant once again! Another jewel of the area with wonderful Cretan food and garden with exotic flowers and bougainvillea! Also recommended for visitors to the aquarium!
