Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

During our stay in Chania we came here daily simply just strolling along the waterfront, or grab a bite and chill. The
harbor is stunning especially at sunset or at night when the place is lit up. There are endless restaurants and cafes but
I feel they are too touristy in their pricing. There are endless shopping at the many side streets. Overall, we enjoyed our
    times here.

Small but very nice museum. It's free. Owner is so friendly and knows a lot. He will let you touch and even try some uniforms. Definitely worth to visit!

We enjoyed our walk out to the Lighthouse along the sea wall for the view of the Lighthouse up close, the sea, and the harbor in Chania. There are two ways to walk (upper level) and lower and we varied it based on the wind the day we went and the crowd. It was a nice walk with viewing sights along the way.. Recommended, however those with mobility issues will find parts of the walk quite challenging.

    2 beaches here actually.
Lovely sandy bay, good for swimming and snorkelling.
Nice walk to cave and through pine trees on headland too.
2 beach bars (on the beach nearest Chania), showers and changing facilities

The TripAdvisor pin is on the second, workshop, site. The Museum is at the far end by the Firka fortress. It covers Cretan history, mostly from a Chania or nautical perspective but there’s lots more. Excellent model of Chania ( ie. visit this first to understand the rest), models of ships, explanation of WW2 in Crete, maps, lots and lots. Worth taking time to read the explanations.

This small museum is the home of Eleftherios Venizelos, the man who helped remove the Ottomans from Crete, unite Crete with Athens and guide the new nation through WW1.
The museum is his childhood and adult home while in Crete. They have an interesting collection, ranging from oil paintings to the car with 60 bullet holes from an assignation attempt. It's worth a stop while visiting Chania.
The collection has signs in Greek and English. They have an app with a description of many objects written in several languages.

What an interesting, emotional place. Our guide took us to this synagogue; I had never heard of it and would not have even noticed the entrance. It is small. To walk around takes no time. But hearing from the gentleman inside about the history of the Jews in Crete--which predates the time of Jesus--was so fascinating. And the fate of the last survivors after over 2000 years was tragic. But the fact that non-Jews have maintained and kept this synagogue going and have regular services there, just restores your faith in humanity a little. The host mentioned a bar mitvah occuring there--isn't that a wonder? So happy we were able to visit and learn.

Busy beach with lots of bars and restaurants along it... 10 euros gets you two spots on a chair under an umbrella... nice beach... but busy.

The museum used to be in the middle of town but is now in the eastern suburbs. It’s walkable but a slog. Bus maybe. They’re going after the hired-car visitors, not backpackers.
Very good analysis of western Cretan sites although I suspect the best pieces went to Heraklion. It has modern interpretation some video and explains the wider history, too. So it ends up complementary to Heraklion’s museum. I only wish they had seats opposite the video.
New building feels strangely empty. Good cafe with excellent views.

We didn’t know the monastery was closed, but was pleasantly surprised to be allowed in to walk though to see it from the outside. Beyond the gates the views over the coast. There is a hike you can do which gives sweeping and breathtaking views.
