Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the more interesting churches I have ever encountered in visiting 50 countries. It is built sunken into a rock although the slats in the roof although light and visions of the sky to shine through. Truly remarkable place and well worth a short visit. Not sure they hold services here anymore although there were lots of wedding photos.

Visited the railway station as part of a city walking tour and then came back later to experience the building in more detail. The lantern bearers sculptures on the side of the building were impressive. The inside was just ok, but I guess it functions for a train station.

The building is extraordinary, and you can wander around to look at the collection. Some of the books I found were well over 100 years old, and in great condition.

The library is across the street from the church, and well worth the stop,

Fantastic place! Honestly doesn't look like it would be anything special from the outside, however inside is just delightful! the staff are so friendly and the views on the harbour are divine in the sunshine. It is quite hard to get there at the moment with the building works but worth the walk

Lovely structure home to the local opera.

We were told it’s free to residents which is absolutely awesome.

Beautiful building in its own right.

When the Ulrika Eleonora Church was demolished for the future site of Senate Square to build the Helsinki Cathedral the Old Church was constructed in 1826. All the plans were by the architect C.L. Engel himself, creator of the Neo Classical city center resembling St.Petersburg so much it has been used in Hollywood films. Built from heavy wooden logs after the Czar's orders most of the interior was moved from Ulrika Eleonora like the pulpit with gilded decorations dating back to 1726. A grander organ was later ordered and the plain cross substituted with Robert Ekman's altarpiece. Though the church was aimed to be temporary it is now the oldest in Helsinki and hasn't luckily never been burnt down.

At the large Senate square you not only find the Senate building, also the Palace of the Prime minister, the Dom Cathedral, as well as the main building of The Helsinki University and the Sederholm house, Bock House and the lovely Havis Amanda Statue.

Once I read about the exterior of this old building, I had to find it! It is covered with carved beasts of all sorts and gargoyles which are taken from legend and folklore of Finland. I suppose it was the insurance company's reminder that beasts are out there and let us insure you!

The Bank of Finland displays its art collection to the public only once a year, the exhibition was now extended over three days as people have been queuing around the block. There is a long historical connection between finance and art in Finland as we had our own currency and banknotes designed by famous architect Eliel Saarinen before the independence from Russia. Established in 1811 the Bank has allways made its aim to collect living artists many of whom have become central figures in their field like Akseli Gallen-Kallela.

Mäntyniemi is one of the three official residences of the President of Finland, besides the Presidential Palace next to the Market Square and the summer residence Kultaranta in Naantali.

When President Kekkonen fell ill in 1981, the official residence Tamminiemi was set aside for him. The Government decided to build a new Presidential residence in the Meilahti district of Helsinki. It was designed by renowned Finnish architects Reima and Raili Pietilä. The construction work was completed in 1993.

Four Finnish presidents have lived there: Mauno Koivisto, Martti Ahtisaari, Tarja Halonen, and Sauli Niinistö.

The residence is not open to public and very little can be seen from outside.
However, there is a beautiful Maila Talvio Park in front of the residence. Also, the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum is located nearby.

The great Art Nouveau palace by Gustav Nyström from 1900 has remained quite unaltered also indoors though different small businesses rent the space temporarily. Protected by law as a National Monument the half vacant red brick beauty has a better future ahead. Stora Enso paper mill company situated in the iconic Alvar Aalto "Sugarcube" nearby will build new imposing head quarters in wood at the waterfront and the general plan with public areas includes the prestigious old Customs House too.

The impressive late 19th century palace at the corner of Diana Park held last the offices of the National Board of Customs. Now most of the block consisting of several interesting buildings from different architectural periods is under renovation. The window by the male statues belongs to the ashtonishing showroom of Skanno furniture company which is open for customers through the newly painted staircase.

Occupying half the block the Suomi building was designed for the life insurance company by Armas Lindgren in 1911. Three groups of people carved in granite and created by Emil Halonen face the Old Church side - mother and two children and a pair of girls and boys at the corners. In the park next to them sits the collector of Kalevala folklore Elias Lönnrot, on the Yrjönkatu side of the palace the sculpture Tursas ja vedenneito by Sakari Tohka is suffering in a beer garden and higher on the wall is the relief Unexpected visitor. Galerie Forsblom with interesting contemporary exhibitions is also in this large building.
