Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This sprawling museum has a variety of old buildings spanning the history of Finland. It was put together very logically. From the grand Russian house and the manor building, to the bear cache and the haymakers cottage, there is something for everyone. A few buildings each day have people in them who represent historical types of Finns, and they all speak reasonably good English. There is a nice little cafe, a lot of singing and flying birds (no squirrels, though) and if you go off the beaten path there are all sorts of little trails that lead to spectacular views of the lake. Especially nice on a cool, sunny day. And clean and free washrooms!

It is a good museum in an attractive building. It is a fine introduction to the histolry of Finland. I expect it will be even better in 2027 after its multi-year renovation which will be starting soon.

Entry to the museum was free which was great and it's designed for families with plenty of things for children to see. The museum is situated just off the Senate Square. The staff were all very friendly and spoke good English. They have a nice gift shop, cafe and clean toilets inside. The museum is spread over several floors and has a wide range of exhibits with many designed to interest children, although plenty for the adults to see as well! The museum gives you a history of Helsinki with photos and exhibits including rooms to show how people lived in the past. There was also a large model showing the city. Well worth a visit especially if it's raining!

Aalto studio is a great place and an insight view to Aalto's life and work. This is more like architecture office house but perhaps more interesting is The Aalto House. I recommend these both. One hour visit/each.

Perhaps you are heading towards the Arabia Outlet, but do not miss the visit to the top floor which displays glass and porcelain, a rich history of what was made in these large industrial premises. The visit is free of charge so no reason not to take the elevator up.

The small yellow cottage has stood on the same place from 1818 and was even inhabited untill 1974 when other wooden houses were still scattered around central Helsinki. Opened as a free museum again recently it shows a glimpse of the petty bourgeoisie family life in the 19th century. There is a guide on location, a brochure in English has detailed information about the furniture and decoration items which come from the Helsinki city museum collection. The house is located in a peaceful angle of Kruununhaka and open from Wednesday to Sunday 11-17.

Having worked in the newspaper business, I had an interest in visiting this museum of Finnish newspaper history and printing technology. I would have enjoyed it more if there had been English language labels..

Very small bourgeoise home museum but it is an important part of finnish history and time of enlightenment. Authentic gustavian style interior, some artworks, furniture and interesting facts about living.

Hotel and Restaurant Museum (Hotelli- ja ravintolamuseo, Hotell- och restaurangmuseet) is a special museum. It tells about food & drink culture and tourism in Finland. Admission is free with Museum Card, Helsinki Card and visitors under the age of 18 years.

I learned interesting facts in the museum. Here is one example. In 1943 we got a law that says that school lunch must be free for every pupil. So Finland is the world's first country, which started to serve a free hot lunch for every pupil 1948.

Went up this street by pure accident to Senate Square and the Helsinki Cathedral. Only found out what it was later.

The park with old, big trees and garden area are fabulous. There are great old wooden buildings around the mainbuilding made of stone. In one of the old wooden buildings is a good restaurant "Wanha mylly". This place is easily reached by underground (10 min from city center to the east Herttoniemi, walk 1 km from the station to the southside of freeway, use the big bridge) or bicycle. The place is situated on the bicycle route and one can continue to the east along the beachfront with nice views and take an underground even back.
