Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is the main terminal for cruise ships within Finland and outside. We took a silja line cruise ship from Stockholm and arrived here.

We took the ferry from Helsinki to Stockholm and it was such a bargain price to have a small cabin to ourselves we saved a bunch on flights/hotel. It was a bit of a jolty ride at times, and I did wake up at around 3.50am when we reached the Åland Islands because of that, but I don't regret it because I went on deck and got some beautiful pictures of the archipelago and the sunset. The several hours before reaching Stockholm were filled with so many beautiful islands and houses on the lake to see so highly recommend getting a coffee and sitting on deck 2 hours before arrival. Food and drink was predictably expensive, but not too bad. There was onboard entertainment but we didn't attend. There's a duty free style shop that's quite extensive also. The bar at the back sun deck was great, but the benches all along the side were also wonderful for sight seeing. Definitely the recommended way to enter Stockholm.

The ride over to the Suomelinna island was smooth and hassle-free. The ferry went a time a pace that gave visitors a cage to capture the site and sceneries. It was on time on both journeys and seating was quite comfortable. Very nice ride. I will highly recommend .

We are used to travel the route Helsinki -Travemunde, but sorry to say: year by year the quality has declined like the tail of a cow.
The loong hours sitting in a car waiting for boarding are familiar, this time the ferry was other than we have booked. The overall atmosphere was nonchalant: no announcements in any language. No slippers neither toiletry bags in a suite! Luckily there was one ( yes, one ) bottle of beer, again, in a suite for four passengers. The compensation 30€ a person came to a real need.
OK, we've used to the buffet meals on Finnlines, no one leaves hungry, however, nothing special, no cheese, a lot of everyday sweet things.
Last but not least: the arrival time has gone, after an hour we got a note that we'll be late an another hour!
The Mediterranian owner Grimaldi Lines has succeeded to bring back almost all bad experiences from the Mediterranean ship lines. I have advised them, Grimaldi and Finnlines to send someone to see how things are done by Silja, Viking, and Eckero Lines, obviously they haven't done that yet.

We were staying a short walk away from Market Square, so it was an easy walk for us to the dock area to catch the ferry for the short 20/25 minute or so journey across to the fortress, with one interim stop in each direction.

The ferry was efficient - arriving and leaving on time with two decks, one covered and one open, which is best in good weather as it gives you good views as you travel. On our way back, the weather became more windy, so upstairs was for the hardy explorers.

They also serve a limited range of refreshments for you to buy for your journey.

The agency sent out what seemed was a blast email cancelling my trip. No personalisation or anything, no explanation despite taking full payment days before.

I had to ask them why, they explained the ferry broke down and required repairs. I had to quickly scramble accommodation and activities for Helsinki as I hadn't expected to stay in Helsinki at all.

Aava Lines offers many different sea voyages. You can choose a very short boat transfer from Merisatama (N.B. this dock isn't at Kauppatori Market Square) to Uunisaari (Restaurant Uunisaari) and Liuskaluoto/Liuskasaari (Restaurant Skiffer and HSS Restaurant) or longer archipelago cruises. I especially love cruising to Pentala Archipelago Museum (read separate Tripadvisor reviews, departure points in Suomenoja, Suinonsalmi, Soukka/Klobben, Laurinlahti and Kivenlahti, Espoo) or outer islands (Stora Herrö, Rövaren and Gåsgrund). They have special transfers for bikers, too. Charter cruises from Kauppatori and Hakaniemi are also available but they are very expensive, e.g. round trip to Helsinki Biennial for 1-20 people 750 euros.
