Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The amazing thing about Helsinki is that you can hope on a ferry and get to amazing places like this very quickly. This inexpensive 15-20 ride takes you from downtown to this cool island. An old fortress with a museum where you can explore, picnic, hike and feel a world away from the city. An absolutely perfect day.

One of the more interesting churches I have ever encountered in visiting 50 countries. It is built sunken into a rock although the slats in the roof although light and visions of the sky to shine through. Truly remarkable place and well worth a short visit. Not sure they hold services here anymore although there were lots of wedding photos.

As first time visitor to Helsinki, the cathedral was a must to visit. The cathedral is located in Senate Square on top of a hill with a number of steps. The inside is very modest. The dome of the cathedral can be seen from various places in the city and is very impressive when coming into the south harbour on a ship.

It's sad, but the truth is that modern food purchases take place at large grocery stores or online. What remains then is what caters to diners and tourists. So don't expect a bustling market life, but more of a visit to remember old times and be enchanted by the architecture. An even better example of what has been lost is the food market outside, which today offers more souvenir stalls and the occasional simple restaurant

We followed the snaking trail of tourists up the steps and into the church. As it was rather busy we took a quick look at the ornate interior and departed but not before spotting a man wearing an All The Stations hoodie!

This sprawling museum has a variety of old buildings spanning the history of Finland. It was put together very logically. From the grand Russian house and the manor building, to the bear cache and the haymakers cottage, there is something for everyone. A few buildings each day have people in them who represent historical types of Finns, and they all speak reasonably good English. There is a nice little cafe, a lot of singing and flying birds (no squirrels, though) and if you go off the beaten path there are all sorts of little trails that lead to spectacular views of the lake. Especially nice on a cool, sunny day. And clean and free washrooms!

Truly a remarkable public library, a place for people of all nations (but especially the lucky residents of Helsinki) to hang out, sew clothes, use a 3D printer, play all sorts of games from video games to board games, check e-mail on their public terminals (which were very useful to me who does not travel with any electronic devices), read books, or just exist. They have a "Citizen's Balcony" on the top floor with many comfy chairs and nice view. I've never seen anything quite like it. A magnet for both locals and visitors.

First time visitor to Helsinki. Made my way to the square several times during my visit as it was the main meeting place for my walking tour and seemed like I always end up back at the square. There is a row of huts with food and beverages. Enjoyed brick fire pizza with local beer there. The weekend I was there, there was also a Car show in the square with lots of activities.

I had to visit a bank to get my APP to function. Then I have parking time left and looked around the area of Kamppi. There were the EU election going on outside Kamppi Chapel of Silence. The Chapel it self was very quiet and there were only few people.

Stopped for a quick walk through while waiting for the ferry to the island. I found it mildly interesting with many of the stalls selling the same kind of things. Expensive either way you cut it. We did buy some canned sardines and they were $10. Time for the ferry before we spend more.

The building is extraordinary, and you can wander around to look at the collection. Some of the books I found were well over 100 years old, and in great condition.

The library is across the street from the church, and well worth the stop,

Best choice was on Saturday when there seemed to be more stalls. Unlike most places they're not full of rubbish but nice homemade gifts. Everything from magnets to fur hat/ gloves, wooden items, knitted clothes, glassware. Nice place to wander for a while.
Also some food stalls which seem to be there most days.
