Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Short 20 min ferry to the island from the marketplace in Helsinki. Took a pre-arranged tour in English from Suomenlinna island harbor. Excellent guide learned a lot. Walked all over the island that not only is a bastion fort but also residential for Helsinki folks, open prison and sea scouts. Did a 10am tour which was good as it got really busy after that. Restaurants/cafes and shops on island. Had great sunny weather. Good spot for picnic too.

If was here for a week I would be happy to come every day for food and try something different each day. Excellent quality products, open sandwiches from the few places we tried were good, ice cream stall was excellent (hazelnut, pistachio, and a cream wine type of flavour). Had the salmon soup in the first restaurant in the middle section if entering through south entrance, that was also excellent. One thing to avoid is buying bear meat that is smoked / cured. Preparing Bear like that takes away its real taste, and its a complete rip off - 2 thin sticks of bear salami was 16 euros, it tasted like it could have been pork, nice but pointless, tinned bear meat is better. Have a look there anyway as they will give you a sample of the smoked bear so might as well taste it for free (its very salty). Better to go to the stall where the lady is selling bear meat on an open sandwich, also expensive for what you get but at least you get the real taste.

This beautiful sanctuary, an open air museum, has lush greenery, a variety of fauna, scenic locations and many 17-18th century houses that have been relocated from various parts of Finland.
The houses and their interiors exhibit the traditional life from the the bygone era. Most of the houses have guides dressed up in traditional costumes and they animatedly share information.
There was no ticket to go around the place. There's a nominally priced ticket only in case you want to visit the interiors of the houses. They provide a map of the area with proper guidance about the routes. The ticket is a must have for those who love history and culture. It was a sheer delight for a period era buff like me. Being inside those houses was like being transported back to those times.
There are cafes and ice cream kiosks in case you want to have something.
The place was sheer bliss to be in and was one of the major highlights of the Helsinki visit for us. Highly recommended.
The visit could take about 2 -4 hours depending upon how leisurely your pace is.
The bus ride from Helsinki is about 20 min.

The system is good but buy a ticket before you board, either at station or through app.unfortunately there is no functionality to buy a ticket once you board by tapping or through staff

This is the big open square in front of the Cathedral. Our cruise ship's shuttle bus dropped us here, so we stopped for a while to take it all in. Impressive official buildings all around. Some places set up to sell you snacks. Lots of stone, no shade. You have to walk off the square to find the commercial city.

It is an amazing modern building conceived as the social and cultural centre of the city. It is worth a long walk on the interior where you can find the library, a cosy cowork space, a cafe, a child space, and much more.

A very pretty city park, toward the center. A good place to take a break from the stone and brick of the city. Well-landscaped, old fashioned, places to sit if the weather is mild.

It is the main terminal for cruise ships within Finland and outside. We took a silja line cruise ship from Stockholm and arrived here.

Located on a big open square, this is one of the city's food markets. Happy to see so many different fruits and vegetables available. We did not buy, but looking was much fun.

This excellent biological museum (first a zoological museum and since 1996 a natural history museum) has three floors: bones on the 1st floor, the wildlife of the world and climate change exhibition on the 2nd floor, evolution and Finnish nature on the 3rd floor. Picnic tables are available in the courtyard.

The building itself is very interesting, too. It was built as early as in 1913. For a short period of time it served as a school and as the building of Jaeger Regiment and the headquarters of the army. The University of Helsinki bought the building in 1923 and opened a zoological museum there.

We had a long walk around the center of the city and this market square was one of the big places we passed through. Lots of activity here and there were a lot of shoppers.

It is a good museum in an attractive building. It is a fine introduction to the histolry of Finland. I expect it will be even better in 2027 after its multi-year renovation which will be starting soon.

This is an attraction with rides, food and midway-type games. Clearly the place is intended for, and used by, teenagers. However, it is fun to wander around get something to eat. If you have kids, buy a pass and you get some peace and quiet while they have fun.

There is a tram ( #3) that lets you off right in front. That is a lot better than driving and parking.

We took the ferry from Helsinki to Stockholm and it was such a bargain price to have a small cabin to ourselves we saved a bunch on flights/hotel. It was a bit of a jolty ride at times, and I did wake up at around 3.50am when we reached the Åland Islands because of that, but I don't regret it because I went on deck and got some beautiful pictures of the archipelago and the sunset. The several hours before reaching Stockholm were filled with so many beautiful islands and houses on the lake to see so highly recommend getting a coffee and sitting on deck 2 hours before arrival. Food and drink was predictably expensive, but not too bad. There was onboard entertainment but we didn't attend. There's a duty free style shop that's quite extensive also. The bar at the back sun deck was great, but the benches all along the side were also wonderful for sight seeing. Definitely the recommended way to enter Stockholm.
