Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A wonderful afternoon birding, with local expert, Guillaume. A must for amateur and more advanced birders who wish to explore this beautiful part of the Algarve. Janet Wood.

Previous reviews indicated that it would be a great birding outing with an excellent guide, and we found those reviews to be not only accurate but perhaps understated. Guillaume really knows his stuff! His skills at finding specific birds in a mixed flock was amazing, and his ability to verbally direct our eyes to see them also was much appreciated. As casual but motivated birders in new (to us) territory, it was wonderful to go with a highly knowledgeable and experienced guide and have him tell us what we were seeing. We went to two different wetland sites and saw 48 species, some of which were firsts for us.
In addition to his birding skills, Guillaume could share information on any topic that we wanted to ask about, which made the drive to the sites very interesting and personalized. He is also a very good driver, and as a host, attentive to the personal needs of his group (nutrition breaks, bathroom breaks, pacing the speed of the walk to our ability). He even brought along camp stools to sit on for our lunch break.
Our family of three Canadians, two seniors and an adult, wholeheartedly recommend this tour, both for the suitability of sites and the skill and personal qualities of the guide, Guillaume.
It was a mostly overcast day, with intermittent showers, which was likely to our benefit as there was little glare for viewing and photography. I half suspect that Guillaume was instrumental in arranging the showers for when we were in the car or in hides. He was very good-natured about my incessant questions, great sense of humour, an all-round good sport.

Guillaume was the perfect host, with outstanding knowledge of the area and its wildlife. The trip comprised just the 2 of us along with our host. We were treated to an amazing array of birds, some that we see at home, but many that rarely come to our shores. A wonderful afternoon out, birdwatching with our new friend! Thank you

Gillaume was an excellent tour guide over the Alvor dunes. He was knowledgable, personable and very attentive to us to make the tour enjoyable. We loved that he gave us a paper to check list everything we saw, we saw 25 different types including hoopoe, wheatears and crested larks. We are amateur birders and really enjoyed the morning tour. Thank you Gillaume.

Our tour guide Marcial was great, well informed, patient and just as enthusiastic as we were!

Not only did we get to see the birds we were told about their calls and flight behavior as well as all the information we would need to know about the areas we visited.

The tour was wrapped up with a cup of tea, biscuits and bird checklist!

Our day was exceptional. We saw 36 bird species, incredible scenery, learned about local plants and some interesting history. Our biologist guide, Guillaume, was amazing at chosing varied locations locations where we saw different birds and their activities. He also was very knowledgeable and very professional about everything we asked - plants, towns, traffic signs, local tips.
He knew the bird songs, always took time to point me in the right direction, and orchestrated an amazing day.

We had such a memorable time here - such a warm welcome from Marcial and Paula and then such expertise all day from Gui👍🏻. Gui was undoubtedly one of the most knowledgeable guides we have had the pleasure of experiencing. We saw many birds highlights being: Orphean Warbler, Bonelli’s Warbler, Short Toed Eagle but the star of the show was Eurasian Eagle Owl.

Tours like this depend of the quality and knowlege of the guide, and in this case was a real pleasure find someone like Guillaume with real knowledge. Im gratefull for that, because my son had a good expert to respond his curiosity 😄

I was fortunate to have found this wonderful birding excursion offered by A Rocha online. Guillaume is a super guide ... very knowledgeable, friendly and in tune with his clients. We had a relaxed, very thorough tour of the region. He really knows his stuff! And he can give the tour in French, English or Portuguese. I am French-speaking, so chose to have the tour in French.
On our tour, we saw at least 47 species of birds, most of which were new to my life list. I was thrilled! And I got a few great pics of the birds, in particular, the Iberian Grey Shrike that seemed to be everywhere that day. We also saw three Imperial Eagles (!), a Spoonbill, dozens of Great Bustards, a Little Owl, Northern Lapwings, Cattle Egrets, White Storks in their nests and an impressive number of birds of prey, such as the Common and Lesser Kestrels. All in all an amazing day!

I highly recommend A Rocha birding tours, in particular Guillaume!

Guillaume was very knowledgeable and identified over 30 birds on our half day trip. We covered over 6km. He stopped and focused on the birds with his scope and provided detailed information. We recommend this trip and especially the guide.

We had a nice time walking through Da Ria Formosa with Guillaume. He pointed out all of the different birds and explained some of their behaviors and migratory patterns. The half day was just the perfect amount of time for us newbies and the area was full of a lot of great birds to watch. The flamingos and storks were particularly beautiful.
