We walked here from Girne in just over an hour. As you approach the village you get a wonderful view of the abbey showing the height of its walls. The village is pretty and was loved by Lawrence Durrell who bought a house here. When we came , mid morning on a Saturday it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful. It’s very atmospheric with beautiful views of the coast line and surrounding mountains. The signage in the abbey is fairly minimal but luckily our guide book gave us more information.

The castle is nice but there's no path to the very top, at least it's not marked clearly. But the views are terrific anyway. The admission is EUR 3 and they accept euros.

Crossing the border by foot is so easy from Leda street, a taxi stop is a minutes walk away. The fare to Kyrenia was €30 and so simple, once you arrive at the castle be prepared for some steep steps if you want to climb to the top trust me it’s well worth it. The sheer size of this medieval fortress is stunning and the views amazing. Anyone visiting Cyprus make the journey you won’t be disappointed and on an even positive note the cost of living I.e food, beer, wine etc is a lot cheaper.
And the best homemade lemonade is available in the courtyard !

Wonderful charity run by brilliant selfless people.

Please visit to walk a dog around the beautiful 5 finger mountains or to come play with some cats. There are flat ground options to walk on. They will be very grateful!

In summer it can be too hot for walks so best to email ahead.

Please support this wonderful charity who do great work for these animals in helping them get rehomed.

One can drive in to this castle some 6kms off a main road or walk along a heavily littered tarmac track to the start of the climb on a good path to the castle itself. The ascent takes about 25 mins and offers spectacular views.

Buffavento is another of those spectacular ruins that encapsulates the Crusading period with battle hardened knights defending the Island from the Arabs and the many others who threatened its shores.

We walked the six kilometres in and out, but were saddened by the amount of litter and general waste spread about the route. The authorities either need to restrict the use of this road to stop anymore fly-tipping or clean it up.

The Lord's Palace, Kyrenia North Cyprus. What can I say except superb. Beautiful hotel. Fabulous Spice restaurant. Fantastic staff. Especially beautiful Necla, food and beverage manager, always does her utmost to make you feel special. Handsome Serghi, supervisor, always has time to say hello and to chat for a few minutes no matter how busy he might be. Favourite night is Friday, the sushi night. Also love langoustines and smoked salmon. From the pretty Zenab who welcomes you at door of Spice Restaurant to our favourite waiter Shoab, always available to top up your drinks with a happy smiling face. Thank you to everyone for always going out of your way to make us feel special. See you next year.

We were here on one of the hottest days this summer and spent more time in the waves and at the taverna than on the beach. The taverna has great food and cold beer, and also lent us umbrellas to put in the sand. The sea is amazing with a pure sandy bottom. The turtle nests are clearly marked withh tiny white fences, and the kids thought this was really exciting. Definately worth a day or two!

The museum is within the castle - which is on the same entrance ticket and worth visiting in its own right.

The ship museum is simply laid out and presents a very good history of trading, the ship and its cargo. The preserved remains of the ship itself is impressive.

I like many others I was told of Mavi Kosk in a where to visit talk about the area. Remember to take your passport. We arrived to find we where stragglers of a Turkish group of tourists learning about their history. Pleased to say we were with a few English speakers who were also very polite. We were given the tour notes in English thankfully but our new found friends were happy to add to our notes bits that they had just been explained to them. Decor was 60ish many items in the kitchen had been manufactured in the UK cast iron fireplace a tv also a piano. As our little group advanced climbed the stairs to MY first experience "goose bumps" on my forearms !!! The bedroom we had just entered was the meeting place for the MAFIA. They discussed operations here. Out side we saw the swimming pool. Whenever the owner threw an Apple to his guests the catcher (male or female) were obliged to return it to him in the bedroom !!I need more space. Taking us out
side passed the pool to the end of the garden was a machine gun next positioned out of sight. In the distance the mountain formed a V formation, when vessels sailed by signals were sent to inform the crews that they could offload guns and ammunuition. Walking toward the house an area of crazy paving was set out. One of the Turkish party stood in the centre of this little circle to show us how this phenomena worked. I stood in the centre and spoke out "Good evening ladies and gentlemen" I was then instructed to speak louder, on doing so my whole sentence came reverberating back to me ,an astonishing experience. This area was were the barrister of Makarious rehearsed his speeches for his court appearances. Etc etc etc and there's more. No way be DISSAPOINTED

We left it a bit late in the afternoon to visit the church but luckily passed the caretaker on the road - he turned his car around and went back just to open it up for us! Amazing experience at a truly beautiful place. Not only is the setting wonderful, and the church itself very beautiful but the caretaker (so sorry but we cannot remember his name) was exremely welcoming and friendly. We were served refreshing home-made lemonade and biscuits which we enjoyed while watching thousands of small butterflies. We were not made to feel that we had to hurry and leave - despite it being well past closing time. Defintely recommend. (We actually visited in July 2019 but cannot put that date in this form - we are just very bad at putting reviews up in good time!)
