We recently visited in October half term with extended family and we’re so glad we did. What a magical winter event. Having lived in the area for my whole life (before relocating) we had never visited Welford Park and I can’t believe we hadn’t until now. Such a stunning place. The event was well ran, so many members of staff on hand to help and guide you. The lights at this event were spectacular and the children were in awe of them, as were the adults. The formal gardens in particular were stunning. Hot chocolates were some of the best we’ve had, although super hot so make sure kids don’t drink straight away (our greedy girl tried to and learnt the hard way how hot it can be!) there’s also a marquee with a bar, there was a craft stall and some stalls to eat (although we didn’t so couldn’t comment on these!) would definitely recommend such a family friendly well ran event.

This really is a hidden gem that not many people know about. Inside the small well preserved chapel is full of Stunning artwork throughout, with all the walls covered with different pieces telling different stories of wartime encounters. Absolutely fascinating to see and admire all the paintings.

Beware! TripAdvisor has the opening times totally wrong. It is actually a dual function building. Most of the time its a conference centre and closed to the visiting public. During school holidays it works as a heritage building with tours and activities. So although Tripadvisor said it was open when we called, it was actually closed to visitors. So don't rely upon TripAdvisor. Check on the attraction's website so you are not disappointed when you arrive.

Fortunately, the very kind receptionist allowed us to visit, and I am very glad she did so. The house is a spectacular example of first class historic restoration. Its a beautiful building, exceptionally well presented, and full of hidden surprises. The grounds are also lovely.

I have only one criticism, namely that the lighting is in places unnecessarily obtrusive. As this building is used primarily for conferences and meetings, its rooms are necessarily full of tables and chairs. Even so, a dialogue between the conference people and the architects could have resulted in lighting that's just as bright, but works better with the historic surrounds. This would result in a more comfortable experience, for both historic building and conference visitors.

Was a lovely pit stop for both of us and our dog x dog friendly walk where she could be on lead and off lead and a stop for an amazing sandwich and decent cuppa x

    Disappointing visit yesterday.

The car park was like a quagmire. The toilets were filthy (not just from the car park mud). The playground was also very muddy.

Despite the timed entry it was very slow moving inside and our children found that frustrating. More labels for the interesting plants please. The centre feels a bit uncared for. Could be so much more.

We felt it was just too pricey for 1 -2 hours entertainment.

There is a sign on the entrance gate that says “no parking private road” which would probably put most people entering in the first place, but do go in as there is free parking and plenty of spaces. A suggested donation for parking is £2. It’s an uneven carpark and quite hilly to the castle so this one’s not for mobility users, but never the less this english heritage free site is worth a visit for the spectacular views of the area from the top and castle gate house and ruins. Seems to be lots of different walks you could go on also from this base.

Went to Bootleg Blondie, fantastic band, superb, clean venue, excellent acoustics, friendly staff, and free tea and coffee!

We parked by the wharf and were pleasantly surprised by the walk along the canal through the town. A quiet oasis. Worth a visit if you're nearby.

I go to the members on the ground floor and the food offering is fab but COLD- every time we have eaten- when asked for it to be heated we are told it is not possible as there is no microwave!!! I am sure you are not supposed to sell a roast lunch COLD!! 🥶 maybe the members need to make a collection to buy a microwave!!! Such a disappointment!!

I enjoyed a look around this interesting museum which consists of two old buildings joined together with a modern reception area. There are exhibits from Roman and Saxon eras as well as more modern times. The Kennet and Avon canal is covered but there did not seem to be much mention of the railways in the area. Overall: a good small local museum which deserved to be busier than it was.

A very large area to visit and is quite good for a lunch or a couple of hours to spend out with friends and/or family. The static gym is quite good, and the bandstand generally isn't used, but the area around it is very pretty. The actual park itself is very good and has lots of features for kids to play in. The field is great for picnics and great to play football in. The skatepark is relatively good to play on. The large pond is quite good to sit by and just chill. The paths are in good condition and are good to walk around. The whole area is in a good location, being next to the canal, the bus station, Parkway, and just around the corner from the town center.

Delightful looking church just off the canal and ver close to the town centre. Just discovered on a walk around Newbury.
