Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Interesting little town museum. It's part museum and part gift shop and is only small, but it's free to get in, although donations are appreciated. There are old fashioned shop displays at the back which adds a nit of nostalgia.

I love L'Artishe Gallery. The owner is a working artist herself and has a studio on the premises so you can see her work and chat to her about art. She's very interesting to talk to and the art in the gallery is a great mix of changing exhibitions and includes work from established and emerging artists. Slightly hidden away up the High Street it is worth taking the time to visit this gallery.

Really friendly collective of artists - we visited in November as the season was really beginning to turn cold so less going on but worth a visit if you like art. You need to head to the station and cross the line either via the footbridge or over the level crossing itself to access it.

It's just a simple room but it packs a lot of history into the small space. You can see some prehistoric and more modern artifacts and read about the sieges to the castle and how things have changed over the years.

Learn about the 1882 murder, clay extraction and quarrying , see an 18th century cauldron and an interior recreation of the nearby Bucknowle Roman Villa. Loved hearing the various Dorset dialects. That was unique.
Just walk through if you're in the town.

Lovely art work from local artist-purchase 2 pictures. Very pleased with them. Nice to see the artists at work in the shop and enjoyed talking to them.

I ordered a beautiful beach towel with a cute donkey design, and the quality is exceptional. The order process was quick and easy, and two days later I received my order. Thank you for such good service and when I'm next in Swanage I will definitely pop in for a browse.

"A fully paid-up member of the Human Race." This is a way of describing people that I learned from one of the great philanthropists, Vanda North. Well, Andy Knill certainly is one. He as created a sanctuary in Swanage for those who need to find emotional expression through FREE art.

Generously, Andy provides the space and the materials for you to draw and colour to your heart's content. I've never known him even ask for donations.

Of course, there's a story behind why he is so generous but why don't you ask Andy?
