Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a fabulous place. Last visited many years ago and was impressed by the improvements to accessibility that had been made. The restoration of the steps to the monks dormitory was so worth it as it gives you a much better idea of scale - plus a fab view.
Have to mention Lucy in the reception who greeted us. What a fantastic asset to English Heritage she is! Someone with a genuine passion for what she does - so informative and made the visit.
Will be joining English Heritage because of how she brought the site to life. A wonderful visit.

A modern, informative museum. Our family of 9 people visited, aged 16-83. Interesting and some beautiful boat models.

A fantastic interactive camera puts you into old photos which is great fun.

You can borrow a wheelchair for free, however you can’t get round all of the displays due to air vents/pillars coming up from the ground. It’s fine, you just have to back track a little or approach from a different direction.

    Shame no dogs are allowed.

A short ferry ride from Rampside near Barrow takes you to Piel Island.
When we went a storm was coming in with thunder and lightening which made it more dramatic.
We had time to visit the Castle before the storm arrived and we headed for the pub.
The king of Piel ( the landlord ) served us and a couple of drinks later the storm had passed.
Having read the history of the island we were so pleased to visit.
The Ship Inn does not serve food but crisps are available.
    Highly recommended.

So glad we made the effort to drive up whilst staying in Morecombe. The journey was lovely with a stop off at charming Grange Over Sands, and Sandscale Haws is one of the best beaches I’ve been to in the UK. Such gorgeous views over to the mountains and golden sand dunes to explore. Note there are no facilities here.

One of the best unspoilt beaches to be found anywhere in the UK. Stunning wide open, sandy beaches and easy access by car and free parking.

This is a lovely park to walk around, although I must have visited on a bad cleaning day as there was a lot of litter lying around the lakes, it was only because of this that it didn't get 5 stars. Apart from that, the rose garden, jubilee garden and the grounds not around the lakes are beautiful.

Nice little theatre well organised and enjoyable shows. Went with 3 friends and all enjoyed it. The bar area is good and sells alcohol or tea and coffees.

On a recent visit to my sister I had to print off my boarding card. Could I find an internet cafe anywhere-no. Along to the library I went and after becoming a Member (free) I was allowed access to the very good internet facilities. The staff were very helpful and although my visit was short even a quick look around told me that there is a lot here of interest to the reader, learner or information seeker. Thoroughly recommend

With the weather being bad today I decided to take a visit to Barrow Market Hall. So glad I did. I managed to get all my shopping all under one roof. So many great stalls and knowledgeable traders. The market is a fantastic place to visit. Many towns have lost their market. Barrow are lucky to have their own market. With the decline of the high street in many towns it was great to see so many stalls in Barrow Market. Next time your are in town pop in to the market and give it a try. You’ll be glad you popped in.

The Walney Island Nature Reserve is a great place for walk with plenty of sea views, it can be very windy to make sure you have warm clothes.
