Points of Interest & Landmarks
This incredibly special, beautifully detailed memorial is dedicated to the 13 Muslim & 1 Hindu soldier interred in Scotland from the British Indian Army - Royal Indian Army Service Corps Force K6 - Animal Transport Regiment. The soldiers came from pre-partion India from an area which is now in Pakistan. Most of the companies escaped from Dunkirk to England where they were repurposed to support British Army in World War 2. Force K6 was sent to Badenoch & Strathspey where they supported the 52nd Lowland Regiment and other Army. 9 of their graves are located in Commonwealth War Graves at New Cemetery, tended for 70 years by local resident Isobel Harling (British Empire Medal) because "her boys" are all "Jock Tampson's Bairns" meaning - we are all of the same skin. The black marble is imported from India, with faith inscriptions and the names of all interred soldiers with their dates of death. The memorial is triangular shaped to represent faith, hope and charity - with the front face of the memorial is aligned east to west towards Qibla (Mecca). The memorial is encapsulated in a circle representing the "circle of life", the stone top of the memorial sloping away towards the ground to mimic the height of the Cairngorms sloping away to the seas which would take the soldiers back home to South East Asia. The memorial is accessible by wheelchair, and made from locally sourced stone, crafted by local stonemason Marc Bruce. The memorial slab was carved, gilded and installed by Andrew Stewart Memorials. Memorial courtesy of Highland Council & donation by Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society.

A fantastic course a must visit when in the Highlands. Great scenery and a warm welcome. We will definitely play this course again.

We had an excellent guided walk here - a 'Wildlife Wander '. It's beautiful. Heard a willow warbler, and saw whooper swans, as well as grey lag geese, and curlew. Lots of natural woodland and marshland. We were told the reserve would be prolific with butterflies in the summer.

Simply excellent! The extremely knowledgeable Susan, knew everything there is to know about the distillery and whisky in general. Book the tour in advance. They are a small distillery but use the finest of local ingredients, but a reservation is the best way to go. Allow about 2 hours. So so happy we chose them!

Lock Gynach is easily accessed from the centre of Kingussie. If you go towards the summit of Creag Bheag, you'll get fine views. It's a few hundred metres ascent but straightforward. If you have the energy, you can go to Newtonmore before returning to Kingussie

I recently attended the Introduction to Glass Fusing course with Anne, what a tremendous day I had!

Anne had worked hard to ensure the studio adhered to all Covid safety guidelines. Masks were worn and sanitizer was readily available. Where possible, tutorials and showing examples of fusingmediums and materials we would sit outside, socially distance so we could be mask free for a wee while. I managed to produce several items of which I am proud. Will definitely be making more!

Anne is an excellent tutor, extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic. I can highly recommend this course.

I really enjoyed the great mix of crafts on display at this gallery, as well as the paintings on the wall. Everything is created by local makers and there were so many lovely reminders of the Cairngorms area which I wanted to take home for presents and for myself!

We had a very enjoyable hour looking at the exhibition by local artists, an interesting conversation with the people running it, bought two paintings and arranged very easily to have them sent - and have received them safely and promptly on return

We were able to rent 2 bikes off season, many of the other shops were closed and did not have great information about when they would actually be open. Owner was super cool, took good care of us. Rentals were affordable and he had good local knowledge of trail systems.

An excellent two days in the hills with Ella and course mates. Ella used her extensive experience and knowledge to instruct us on what is required to be safe on the hills in winter. We became confident in the use of crampons and axes and furthered our navigational ability. Highly recommended.
