Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had the good fortune to be driven here up the winding road (i.e. a bit like Amalfi Coast) by local cousin. My deceased father often spoke of this religious site of his youth and our cousin indicated that in times past a people even walked there up the mountain without shoes on a pilgrimage. So no complaints of the drive. The stunning white basilica steeped in history rises unexpectedly in the middle of the forest and the view of the trees through the glass wall at the front of the basilica is breath-taking. The Black Madonna statue is striking. Mass was being held so we did not examine closely the interior. As everywhere in Italy we lit candles for our intentions especially a safe trip home. There are adjoining picnic grounds and a restaurant and a gift shop none of which we frequented as sun was setting soon. It's a bit off the beaten track but a bit different than the many myriad churches of Italy you might have seen.

We started from prati di mezzo and walked to monte cavallo. As our dog was with us we were told it was best not to go on the highest mountain : monte meta, not to disturb the deers living there. But it was really beautifull all the same!!!

Such an enchanting place! This "young" vineyard with deep roots, has been recently restored by the charming host with the most Cesidio di Ciacca, who returned to his native home of Italy to transform his family's property. He brought new life to the land also adding to it a modernly rennovated cantina, wine tasting room and cooking school, as well as a beautiful albergo difuso (Sotto Le Stelle) where guests can stay overnight in one of the most quaint villages in Italy - Picinisco. This relatively unknown area is tucked away in Lazio, bordering the two regions of Abruzzo and Campagna. This is the authentic, untouched Italy. And an overnight stay (or more) is strongly encouraged. Cesidio will make sure to introduce you to other local natives as well as the international expats who decided to relocate, making the tiny Picinisco city their new home. Ensuring you the most immersive experience, Cesidio has deep connections and strong relationships with the community and beyond, recommending to you the best things to eat and drink, restaurants, bars and unique tours and experiences in the surrounding area.
The wine from I Ciacca is another world. Despite it being a "new" vineyard, their wines are impressive - one is already award-winning!
If you are traveling through Italy (or even living here) I Ciacca Winery, Sotto Le Stelle and the town of Picinisco are SO worth visiting. You can lose and find yourself all at the same time in the quiet but picturesque Italian landscape and terrain. It's the perfect weekend getaway or escape from the big cities. And the best way to experience Italy...for real.

A great day out. Unbelievable views of the mountains and the valley below while taking a risk free trip through the tree tops. Different levels of difficulty with helmets and safety equipment provided make this a lot of fun and good exercise. Thank you, Vincenzo.

The present church of S Lorenzo dates from the 1700s although the bell tower was built in the 1200s, indicating a church probably existed here from the first written mention of Picinisco 1000 years ago. Closed for 20 years after the earthquake of 1984, the church has been carefully restored although some of the ceiling frescos remain to be completed. It continues to be an important focus of village life and worship. All the statues which date from the 16 and 17 th centuries have been restored. The archive which dates back to the mid 1500s is an important source of geneological information. Worth a visit.
