Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic trip, viewing wildlife so close to Dunedin city. And such a great commentary from our knowledgable guide, thank you Rachel. World class!

Absolutely worth every penny. Great guides, super friendly and knowledgeable. Can only warmly recommend this if you like nature and keen to learn about biology, culture and a bit of geology.

Our driver/tour guide, Jeff, was excellent. He packed so much into the tour taking us to the prettiest parts of a very pretty city in Dunedin. Jeff explained the history of the various places we visited from the dormant whale trading through the Edinburgh like university and the glorious historic train station culminating with ninety minutes at the castle.
The bus was perfect for our tour size, Jeff's banter and dry Kiwi humour along with both his deep knowledge and pride in the area made this a great event for us.
You cover a lot in Dunedin in the time available and Jeff ensures you are back at the port well before departure.

Amazing evening! Such a clear, close up view of wild penguins - unlike anything I’d experienced before. We received a really engaging talk - giving us a chance to learn more about the reserve and the history of the area. The friendly team were more than happy to answer any questions we had throughout the evening and hot chocolate warmed us up on the chilly May evening!

The tour and guide were good, but the use of a large bus in the sites visited made it very difficult for the customers, no stop for pictures or bathrooms most of the morning, and the only stop at beach was about 300 meters uphill because there was no manouver space, forcing us, mostly seniors, to walk up and down 300 m of a steep hill, and use a very dirty portable toilet.

This is a totally fun way to spend the afternoon! Rachel drives the boat, spots the wildlife, and gives a great history/geography commentary. My family have become or were born Canadians and they loved it, especially the little blue penguins swimming by. Cyclists and cruise ship passengers have discovered Port to Port BUT I want to recommend it to Dunners residents sitting at home. Just get out and do it! Otago Harbour is totally special and this is a great way to see it up close and love where you live.

This was one of our best trips in NZ. Could not recommend it enough!! It was incredible for wildlife - we saw sea lions, lots of seabirds, penguins (wild and at rehab centre) and albatross (including chicks). It was a fantastic afternoon and an experience I will never forget. Our tour guide Felix was very knowledgeable.

The tour we booked in Dunedin was an amazing experience, the pickup and drop off was on time and the tour guide was excellent. The rates for this trip were reasonable I highly recommend BookATour.

Spent a night here towards the end of our honeymoon. The setting is unique by New Zealand standards, as the only castle in the country. The building itself is very picturesque and has great views of the surrounding countryside and inlet, and the displays and exhibitions inside are very informative - bearing in mind that NZ is a relatively young country by official standards, so the history of Larnach Castle may not quite match up to some European castles! That said, it has an interesting and in some cases controversial history, and at one point, came close to being demolished.
We had dinner in the castle itself, which was grand and the food itself was incredible. If you are staying at the castle, you really need to have dinner here as well! You are seated with other guests which can lead to a lot of interesting discussions.
The accommodation was overlooking Broad Bay I believe and the views in the morning with the sunrise were spectacular.
Thoroughly recommend the experience as a whole as you will do nothing else like it in NZ.

It was a fantastic tour guided by Heike, who is friendly and resourceful. Along the drive to Otago Peninsula, Heike gave us detailed and interesting explanations of the history, characteristics and scenic spots of Dunedin. Besides the highlights in the city, we were impressed by the beautiful scenery of the Peninsula. Heike's good time management enabled us to complete the tour with high satisfaction. It was amazing to see seals at the coast and blue penguins in the nests. Although we were not lucky enough to see the very rare wild yellow-eyed penguins at the shore, we could see the one kept by the Reserve in close distance. The 6-hour tour was fun and rewarding!
