Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Cathy TTauranga, New Zealand69 contributionsWell worth a visit. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Walk takes about 45minutes but lots of places to stop and sit if you wish. Great place for children to have a run around, ducks will be a hit!Written 4 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - d3eGold Coast, Australia72 contributionsLovely big warm pool for a cold day or evening. Great just for chilling out in or unwinding. There is also a really hot spa. Not a lot there and I did feel it was over priced for what it was. Also maybe some local discounts would be good?Written 20 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

Review:
To the Hut:
Started @ 5:30 in the evening, It took 2:30hr to reach till hut. Lot many stairs!! First half has bit more I felt. Second half is little easier. Whole trail is covered by bushes so only river streams you can see till you reach near top!! No views whatsoever otherwise !!
@ hut:
Bed is nice & well arranged
Kitchen: Has few vessels & gas. No microwave. No spoons/forks
Bio toilets: Relatively clean but full of mosquitoes at night!! (as expected)
Shower Area: Good
No bin! TYRB ( Take your rubbish back)
@night:
Awesome stargazing
To Pinnacles:
Started as early as 5:00am
- Dark!!!
~40/50 min to reach
Tricky at places
this part is highlight of the trail
@ Pinnacles:
Unlucky we, it was all covered in fog. But great fun nevertheless.
Tight spots
Back to Hut:
- More we come down, more beautiful scenery!!
- Took ~25/30 min to come back
To the Car Park:
Thanks to foggy morning, whole way was wet & slippery! It slowed us down a lot!! (Think about those who were climbing at that time). Started at around 11:00am, took 2:10 hours to come down.
Advice:
- Target sunset, most sunrises are covered in Fog as I understood
- Go on clear day & moonless nights so you can witness stargazing
- Plenty water, Readymade food, Trekking poles are good.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel MThames, New Zealand54 contributionsA good walk, posted as 5 hours for the loop (took me 4 including walking around the road between trailheads). A section of the Karaka track has recently been upgraded to allow mountain biking. Parts of the track can be quite muddy if it has rained recently, but nothing too bad. Good views from the red rocks into the Kauaeranga Valley and from the Waiotahi track over the Firth of Thames.Written 20 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel MThames, New Zealand54 contributionsThis excellent quality track follows a beautiful stream before climbing up a ridge with great views of Table Mountain. A short drop of the ridge takes you to the Cookson Kauri - one of the largest surviving Kauri in the Coromandel.Written 20 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
