What travellers are saying
- wc9828Boulder CO103 contributionsAn oceanscape on a par with the world's most famous coasts. We parked at the lot at the end of the road, took the steep path up to the near headland, then walked "up top" to nearly South Bay. We descended to the shoreline on one of several connecting paths and made our way back. These paths down the cliffside enable one to make the hike long or short. Just before arriving back at the car park we stood with others and watched a number of seals sunning themselves on the rocks.Written 7 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael CDerby, UK2,011 contributionsThis seal colony can easily be viewed from the road. We saw about dozen seals, including several pups. all basking on the rocks. It was a thrilling experience to see these animals close-up.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael CDerby, UK2,011 contributionsWe spent a very pleasant afternoon on this peninsula. There were quite a few seals basking on the rocks which we were able to observe from a respectful distance. In addition to the seals there were lots of black-back gulls and red-bill gulls to be seen.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Happiness341274390328 contributionsPete did a fantastic job explaining and showing us all there is to know about sheep and shearing. Highly recommended for families. The view from the shearing shed was incredible!Written 12 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Theresa DPerth, Australia1,053 contributionsWell explained social history of Kaikoura
Displays are well labelled and walking in a clockwise direction you can good a good sense of the history here including the 2016 earthquake and arrive back at the small but interesting gift shop.
I was lucky to be at the museum when there was a special display of a local expert on shells- Bev. Photos of a day in her life are on the walls and in the centre of the room is a beaut collection of part of her shell collection.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were introduced to the museum by an enthusiastic young woman who gave us a personal guided tour of this interesting pink weather board house which was built on the bones of whales (literally) between 1844 and 1860 and has been the home of a whaler, a harbour master, a fisherman and their families. Worth a visit.Written 16 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Mary SomervellNelson, New Zealand20 contributionsOur Kaikoura Coast Track private walk was a wonderful experience, with magnificent coastal views and plenty of variety including seals on the beach, regenerating native bush and stream crossings. Our twosome joined up with three friendly walkers on day 2. This very well organised operation is hosted by two farming families. The hospitality is superb with comfortable overnight accommodation and scrumptious meals (if you choose the catered option). The track is well maintained with very good signage. A moderate level of fitness is recommended for the walk of 4 to 6 hours each day including 2 hours of beach walking on day one and more climbing up and downhill on day two.Written 5 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ann TPascoe Vale, Australia1,443 contributionsIt's really curious to read all the the previous reviews because we had a very positive experience with the person who served us at the Farm shop. Admittedly, she wasn't there when we arrived and even calling out didn't work. We were about to leave some cash money for the beautiful alpaca merino scarf we wanted to buy when she appeared. She was friendly and engaging and we successfully made our purchase amongst all the lavender products.Written 16 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AlaskanDracoSoldotna, AK14 contributionsI stayed briefly with the owners, wasn't my favorite. But if you want a couple of quick hours of fun riding and maybe some downhill kicks, then stop in and check this place out. My advice...remember where the brake is at...lol.
